Sterling House, Robin Hood's Bay

Set over the first and second floors of a semi-detached Victorian villa, this holiday accommodation is situated in an enviable position at the top of Robin Hood's Bay. With light and airy living areas that have been sympathetically renovated, the property retains traditional period features such as beautiful marble and cast iron fireplaces, high ceilings and stained glass windows. With four bedrooms – two double and two twin – as well as a large kitchen with dining area and cosy living room, the property is well suited to groups of both family and friends. Outside, the property boasts a well-established, south-facing garden.

Stayed here with extended family for RHB Victorian Weekend. House is idea for large groups. It is clean and modern and very comfortable. Those little extras supplied by the owners of tea and coffee and milk in the fridge - as well as all cleaning products much appreciated. Only had two nights there but would gladly spend more time here - would book again.

Very comfortable family house at the top of Robin Hoods bay next to Grosvenor hotel. Geat garden which is sunny in the morning and up to about 7 in the evening. Opposite the Station car park which is convenient because parking outside the property is a bit hit and miss. The Cinder cycle track between Whitby and Scarborough runs past the house and the X93 bus runs every 30 mins between Scarborough and Whitby Very well equiped kitchen, Very nice and helpful owners, Very clean and comfortable 4 bedroom house. Hight recommended

House was absolutely perfect, warm, spotless and great location. Went fossil hunting, walking and went on Rose's ghost tour of the village. Was perfect for a group of 6 friends.

Sterling House was a real home from home. There was everything we needed and plenty of room so that we weren't on top of each other. It was well situated with just a steady walk down to the beach.

Rated by Mrs Thompson reviewed on 6th September 2015

Sterling House was perfect in every way. The standard of all the bedding, towels and crockery was excellent. The décor inside the house is beautiful, very clean and modern. I would highly recommend this property to anyone. Thank you for a lovely stay, will definitely use again.

Great location for Robin Hood's Bay, the coast and the moors. Spacious, well equipped and finished to a high standard. Bedrooms all a good size and the ability to choose how the beds were configured in two rooms was a real bonus when travelling with three generations. Warm and cosy, despite high ceilings. Stairs up to the flat and then up to the top floor for 3 of the 4 bedrooms should be considered if anyone is not so mobile. We didn't use the garden as it was October, but it had table, chairs and privacy.

Beautiful, clean and very well equipped house in a fantastic location. Already recommended to family and friends.

A great location for walking from the flat and exploring the local area. The flat was exactly as described and shown in photos with a good standard of décor. Thought has been given to the layout and it has been tastefully decorated and furnished. It was warm, clean and well equipped. A very relaxing flat to spend the week in.

Lovely apartment in an ideal setting. Very good to have two full bathrooms. Very clean. Appreciated the stack of crockery, which meant we never ran out.

Rated by Ms Pinkos reviewed on 7th September 2014

Great flat on the top two floors of the former sea captains house. Well converted, retaining original fireplaces and tiles throughout and well equipped. Has its own entrance at the side of the house, leading to hall on the ground floor and space to leave sandy walking boots! Good living space - living room with two 3 seater sofas, coffee table and TV with cable channels. Through kitchen dining room, with very well equipped kitchen, including dishwasher and washing machine. Two bedrooms face the front of the house, one on top floor at the back has views towards the bay over the rooftops of other houses. Two full bathrooms, both with showed and separate bath. All well maintained and clean. Free on street parking - limited number of spaces - but close to main car park, reasonable charges 9-6 each day. Only a couple of minor downsides. No lamp in living room and tall people are likely to bang heads on the low ceilings on the top floor. Great walking from RHB on the Cleveland Way path and old railway cinder track. Great walks to Ravenscar and Whitby. We ate at the Wayfarer (excellent) one night. Pub has great bay views. Sainsbury's in Whitby isn't far to stock up on food. Would stay again and recommend highly.

The property was the biggest, most important part of our stay as we know the bay really well. We were not disappointed. I would highly recommend this property and hope to return. We were 6 adults and 2 children and we all thought we could quite easily live in this property.

This is a spacious house and it has been decorated and furnished to a very high and modern standard. This is by far the most clean and modern holiday cottage/house we have ever stayed in. The bed linen and towels were lovely. It is in a great location at the top of the village, and we had no real trouble parking. We would definitely like to come and stay here again.

This house was great - it had everything to make holidaying with 3 young children easy. It was bright, with plenty of space, with a well equipped kitchen. The location was also very good, with walks on your doorstep, and close to lots of things to see and do.

Rated by Ms Lees reviewed on 24th July 2012

Sterling House is the perfect choice for a family vacation. The location, at the top of Robin Hood's Bay, has wonderful views and is five minutes walk to the beach. The facilities are excellent, with lovely, comfy beds, covered in soft, good quality linens being a notable point. There were lots of towels and everything was very clean and well looked after. The kitchen was very nicely stocked with all you could need and the sofas were comfy and met our needs. It suited us to have the bedrooms on different floors as the older family member could retire to bed, without being disturbed. The garden was lovely, but I would suggest some garden furniture - although I suspect that this comes out during the warmer summer months. Parking might be a problem during the busier months but as we walked everywhere, once we had a space it ceased to be an issue. I would suggest that, for those rainy east coast days, more Sky channels might be useful and we took our PS3 - which was invaluable when the weather changed for the worse. I paid locally for Bay WiFi (£5 for 3 days/£10 for full week) but was almost completely unable to get on to use it. I could, however, use my phone to get on the internet so use that instead! All in all, we had a memorable time, have recommended the house to other family members and would definitely return. It was fabulous to wake up in a cosy bed, in the eaves of the house, listening to seagulls and the sea. Just lovely. As an addition - The Wayfarer bistro/restaurant is amazing!!! Reasonable prices for stunning food. Book a table as soon as you arrive.

The house is very well equipped, especially the kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. The location is good, right at the top of the hill for walking to the bay with good natural light into the house. The house was exceptionally clean with very good central heating.

The property was light and spacious with some pleasant views. The flat was well located for walking to the old village and nearby paths (Cleveland Way and Cinder Track), and for driving to other towns and attractions. It was also close to pubs and restaurants for outside dining.

A three generation family: we all enjoyed our stay in Sterling House. Four bedrooms and two bathrooms fully utilised as well as excellent kitchen facilities. Parking was not a problem and the garden very useful. Also useful for local shop and pubs.

The place is great and the location great. Robin Hoods Bay is a fantastic location with lots to do for Adults and Children alike. The apartment is fantastic and well equipped. We had a problem with the fire alarm that was promptly delt with. Unfortunately the neighbors in the apartment bellow were noisy on a couple of nights and woke us up coming home, presumably from the pub, and arguing.
