Stables Cottage, Todmorden

Well suited to families or friends, this cosy detached stone built farmhouse, which dates from the 16th Century, is set on the owner's farm and equestrian centre, and offers a fantastic mix of modern facilities with period charm. All three bedrooms - a ground floor single, a first floor double and a first floor twin - have their own en-suite facilities, and the living accommodation - a first class shaker-style kitchen, dining room and sitting room with a woodburning stove - is decorated and furnished to a high standard. Guests will enjoy relaxing in the small garden area, and there are plenty of walks from the door. Head over the moors to discover the Bronte sister's legacy, or spend the day in Hebden Bridge itself, by the canal or perusing the shops and cafes. With the Worth Valley Railway (with steam trains) and the Eureka Museum in Halifax within easy reach, thisis a great cottage for your Yorkshire holiday.

Hebden Bridge is a small town in the Pennines, in the Calderdale area. The Rochdale canal runs through the town, which is a great base for enjoying the excellent walking on offer on the nearby Pennine Way, NT Hardcastle Crags and over the moors to Haworth, famed for its associations with the literary Bronte sisters. Visit Skipton town, the Gateway to the Dales, or the Eureka Museum in Halifax, or simply settle in to watch the steam trains on the Worth Valley Railway. A terrific base for this varied part of Yorkshire.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Reviews

A lovely location which was very peaceful and the accommodation was great, very safe for our children.

Rated by Mr O Reilly reviewed on 9th August 2016

The owner was friendly and did not intrude despite living close by. Liked the situation of the cottage on a hillside above Todmorden so it was away from it all, but with easy access to a super local pub, and within easy driving distance of the reason for our holiday, walking the Burnley Way.

Comfortable excellent accommodation in a beautiful and convenient part of Yorkshire. Owners very helpful and we would not hesitate to return in the future and recommend to friends and family

Rated by Mr Shepstone reviewed on 5th June 2016

This cottage actually has four bedrooms rather than the three that were advertised and they are all ensuite. This was a lovely surprise as I was staying with my son and three of his friends so the extra space was useful. The cottage is well equipped and lovely. The evening sun falls on the garden area and it is a lovely place for a barbecue or just to sit with a cup of tea. The neighbours, including the little Yorkshire terriers are lovely and friendly. It was a great place to stay and would recommend it to anyone with a family. Although it is in the middle of nowhere there is a little lane leading down to the town which only takes five minutes to walk.

This was such a perfect cottage. Everything you could think of. Andy and Chris (owners) couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, also Chris's dad - a lovely gentleman. George and Mollie coming to see us each day made it feel like home as we were missing our dog and cats. I wish I could move in for ever I felt so at home. The cottage is a credit to them both. Will come again for sure.

Stables Cottage is a beautiful old barn that has been tastefully modernised whilst retaining lots of character. The accommodation is light, bright and airy and spacious. The open plan kitchen - lounge is a lovely comfortable room for relaxing ,with a wood burner for chilly evenings, the large kitchen area is very well equipped and a breakfast bar divides the two areas. There is a separate dining room too. One of the en -suite bedrooms (a single) is downstairs - good if anyone has a problem with stairs. Upstairs there are in fact three more ( not two more as advertised) bedrooms, all en suite. The master is a lovely room with a very nice bathroom (bath with shower attachment). There is a single room and a twin room both with good shower rooms. Apart from the master the bedrooms aren`t huge but they all have storage space, a T.V. and are warm and comfortable. Outside there is plenty of parking space and two separate sitting out areas - one at the side of the cottage which is overlooked by the owners cottage and another more private area at the rear . The owners are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. They run an Equestrian Centre so there are horses passing by the cottage and the stables are very near but if you aren`t interested in horses and don`t want to use the facilities it really doesn`t matter. Although there aren`t particularly good views from inside the cottage once outside the views in both directions are stunning. The property is set above the town of Todmorden and in fact it`s a 10 - 15 minute walk down to the town - it does take longer on the way back as it`s quite a steep path back up! There are plenty of other walks from the cottage too and the location is great as there are many interesting places to visit in this part of Yorkshire, and wherever you go you are surrounded by beautiful scenery. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Stables Cottage and would really recommend it for couples or for a family.

A comfortable warm cottage with plenty of room. Excellent walking from the door and in proximity to two good pubs.

Rated by Mr Mcgowan reviewed on 6th October 2014

It was a great place to stay; quiet and peaceful with fantastic countryside about. Great sized rooms, well equipped in every way. The welcome pack was greatly appreciated, can't say enough about how good the cottage was and how welcoming the owners were.

Rated by Mr Pickford reviewed on 31st August 2014

T the top of the hill in front of the equestrian centre where the cottages is located. We have a 2 year old who was fascinated with rare breed sheep and all the very well kept horses. The cottage is located in the hills above Todmorden and is ideally located for many of the places we wanted to visit. There is also a good pub within walking distance and plenty of others nearby. Cottage is very well equipped and the large full fruit bowl and wood starter pack (for the log burner) along with some milk in the fridge were all very welcome additions. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage for a first class holiday. Many thanks :)

This is a beautifully appointed barn conversion which is well maintained by the on site owners. Unfortunately our weather was poor but this did not detract from a great holiday with friends. It was a real bonus that all bedrooms were en suite.

We stayed @ Stables Cottage Hebden Bridge & all I can say they excelled themselves again. From the greeting of the owners plus all the advice on the area plus a great welcome pack on arrival & the house itself was perfect. There was also an added bonus of a wonderful Local just 15 Mins walk serving really good food & Ale plus interesting places to visit who could ask for more. Our american friend was also very impressed. So who could have asked for more.

Lovely cottage, with lots of extras that make it a real home from home stay.

Rated by Mrs Alderson reviewed on 5th November 2013

This is a lovely cottage and the owners have thought of pretty much everything, the tea, coffee, milk and biscuits were very welcomed after a six hour car ride! Staying over October half term we thought it might be a bit on the cold side in Yorkshire however this cottage was lovely and warm. The kitchen was very well equipped, my 8 year old was very impressed with the pizza cutter!! The owners are very friendly and it was good to be able to look around the stables and see the horses. Great walks a straight out of the door and a friendly local pub within a ten minute walk. Take a torch though as it can be a dark walk back!! Overall a lovely clean, comfortable cottage which we hope to return to in the future.

We have stayed at quite a few excellent Sykes Cottages properties, and this one is probably the best. The exceedingly good Shepherds Rest just 10 minutes walk away, good beer and good food. All in all a great week was had by all.

Rated by Mr Matthews reviewed on 18th September 2013

This was an excellent cottage which was very well equipped. It was an excellent location for both the Pennine Way and also the town of Todmorden which was within walking distance although it was a steep climb back! The Shepherds Rest pub was also within walking distance and this is a great pub with very good food. This cottage is based in Todmorden rather than Hebden Bridge. Todmorden is a very pleasant town.

The cottage was fantastic, in a great location, and fantastic value. If we ever venture back to this area of UK will be first place I would go.

The cottage was brilliant! It was in a great location, roughly half way between Leeds and Manchester for the wet days and in beautiful walking country for the sunny ones. The owners were very friendly as were the horses. Probably one of the best equipped cottages we have stayed at for a long time. Great holiday

Fabulous cottage in a wonderful location. Service very warm and friendly - made us feel very welcome. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a bowl of fruit was waiting for us on arrival - wonderful gesture, just what you need after a long journey. All four bedrooms were en-suite and the master bedroom was luxurious. Pub located fairly close and the local town wasn't too far away. Have already booked this cottage for our holiday next year.

Sorry, my english is'nt fine. Very lovely!

We were happy with the overall spaciousness of the cottage. We were provided with tea, coffee, sugar and some fruit which was a very nice touch. The location was lovely, with beautiful scenery and was quiet and peaceful. The cottage was within a short distance of the town of Todmorden, which was full of shops and restaurants. Another big plus was the close proximity of "The Shepherd's Rest" restaurant which had reasonable prices, great food, and fine service.
