On arrival we were greeted by welcome gifts of wine, eggs, fresh flowers and even some milk . Inside the cottage is very spacious with a lovely open plan living space, the bedrooms are all good sized . This cottage has all the home from home things you will need and is in a good quiet location we found the large parking area very useful when our friends and family came to visit. Thank you again to Sharon for a great relaxing stay and also for being so helpful

The cottage is a beautifully converted, and very spacious. On arrival it was lovely to have fresh yellow roses in the house, a little Easter egg on our pillows, wine, milk and fresh eggs from the farm - lovely touches. Overall the cottage was very pleasant. Owner rang me back with recommendation for a local taxi service as we were attending a wedding locally. Lots of board games the children enjoyed playing. One of the things that many past guests mentioned was the wonderful Yorkshire welcome - but we didn’t have one, we didn’t really meet the owners - we’d have liked to. On arrival we had a technical difficulty connecting to the free WiFi running on a hotspot, and asked for assistance with this. The gentleman came over but wasn’t too welcoming when trying to resolve and our only experience of the owners in person. Consequently, we didn’t want to bother them again over a couple of other issues we experienced - mainly the hot water supply running hot and cold in the bathroom/shower for our stay, which we put up with for the duration. The double beds were very, very hard - single beds were fine (I know beds are personal taste, but this was one step up from camping!). I’d also suggest that the kitchen equipment be looked at as for a family of 5, we struggled for larger pans and lack of casserole dishes, and some equipment. Overall, a nicely converted cottage, well furnished and warm, close to amazing attractions of York, Byland Abbey etc, but we won’t return here when we return to the area.

A beautiful holiday home.Simple touches made us feel so welcome ie fresh roses, half a dozen free range eggs, milk and wine.Spacious rooms throughout for 5 adults and one baby. Comfortable beds with clean linen and ample towels.Well equipped kitchen with ample crockery etc. Well situated for visiting tourist locations (car is needed)within just over one hour travel (Whitby).Nearer are Thirsk, Helmsley and Masham. We enjoyed BBQ X2 in the enclosed courtyard.only downside is the one bathroom but soon sorted a plan. Generally a really good holiday helped by great accommodation. Would recommend to anyone.

We had a lovely few days in the cottage. We found all amenities in Thirsk and it was a short journey to York, it was exactly what we needed for a short break with our grandsons. Thanks.

A lovely welcoming "home from home" cottage in a peaceful location, well situated with lots of National Trust properties in the area to visit. York and Harrogate were a short drive away, Thirsk town centre, racecourse, and a large supermarket were one minute down the road. Would certainly recommend, we will be back!

Wonderful welcome with very nice owner . The house is very well rebuilt and has all the amenities we need and even more. Very clean and ordered, I found it one of the best I met in England. It is very well settled in a quite place not far of everything. Actually, I liked everything concerning the house, the place, the area I visited several times and I intent visiting again, if possible using the same cottage.

When we arrived at Wheelhouse, we were immediately met by our hostess who could not have been more helpful. On opening the door to this immaculate cottage, we entered a spacious hallway and with billowing curtains...it was a hot sunny day the 1st week of June, so Sharon had opened the windows and patio doors to let the air circulate for us. It was perfect! a welcome, balloon, bottle of wine and other goodies were left for us. It was The nicest cottage we have stayed in. All 3 bedrooms were big, airy and comfortable. Excellent bathroom and kitchen facilities and the living room room/ kitchen opens up onto a private courtyard with table, chairs and an umbrella for shade. The cottage was beautifully and tastefully decorated, not too fussy with too many ornaments to break! all in all, it was a perfect holiday destination.

This is an excellent cottage. Really well set out and very comfortable with everything you need for an easy stay. All on one level, which made it ideal for members of our party with limited mobility. Special touches by the owners, who are really friendly and helpful, made us feel very welcome. The situation of the cottage makes a it a great base for dales, moors and coast and the proximity to thirsk makes self catering easy with handy shopping and also many possibilities for eating out.

Rated by Mrs Sturrock reviewed on 25th July 2012

A well presented, welcoming holiday home in an excellent location. We appreciated the extra effort the owner had gone to to provide everything we could need such children's toys in the garden and plastic cups and plates. The layout works really well for extended families and is good for families as it is all on one level. We will be coming back!

We have hired this superb holiday home before, and again I have had another good time at this cottage. It is a holiday cottage of a very high standard. Out of 10 I rate this cottage 10+! We will be back.

Wheelhouse Cottage was cosy and comfortable; plenty of room for us to spread out too. The owner was lovely - really friendly and helpful.

Rated by Mrs Caulfield reviewed on 29th December 2011

The cottage was very comfortable and had everything that we needed. It was well located and enabled us to explore the area. Thirsk was nearby with supermarkets and plenty of independent traders of all kinds. The owners were very welcoming and the little extra touches of milk, flowers, bottle of wine and fresh eggs from their hens were lovely. If there is one downside to wheelhouse cottage then it is that there is no view from the property as it is all ground floor.

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 20th October 2011

We liked everything! We have had many cottage holidays and this one was amongst the best. We were particularly grateful to the owners for letting our 3 year old grandson enjoy the use of their young son's outdoor toys. A very warm and friendly welcome awaits holiday makers at this cottage! The owners did everything possible to make it very enjoyable.

It is one of the best cottages we have ever hired and over the years we have hired many cottages from Sykes. This property was first class in every way - I would be a liar if I said it was any thing other than superb. We will be back. The little extra touches such as the wine, eggs and flowers were very good. We left a thank you card for the owners telling them of who much we enjoyed their holiday home. 11 out of 10! Well done Sykes Cottages for having this property on your books.
