Reviews

We loved the location of the cottage, the children had lots of space to play outside. The cottage itself was lovely and the owners were really friendly.

The location was beautiful and picturesque and the cottage was light and spacious. There was a nice pub called the Knights Table a few minutes drive up the road. The owners were really friendly and helpful. The location was quiet but only a ten minute drive into Buxton. We love the area with lots of cycle routes; Monsail, Manifold and Tissington.

Downsdale cottage is a lovely small place perfect if you want to be away from it all, for me it was great no mobile signal or 3G so I was not bothered by work. The cottage is well equiped with everything you need, 2 lovely bedrooms, the bathroom could do with been updated but serve well, the kitchen is well equiped with everything you require, lovely coal fire with free coal just leave the empty bucket at the front door and the owners will fill it for you. The cottage is of the main Buxton to Leak road and in the thick fog that covered us for 4 days the turning is very dangerous and difficult to find, no the owners fault just a word of warning. The night sky was incredible the first 2 nights with shooting stars. All in all a lovely place for small family we have 2 small children and they loved it. Thank you for a lovley stay.

A fantastic opportunity to get away from it all, with lovely views. Cottage fairly comfortable with great kitchen, parking and easy access to the delights of the Peak District. We would stay again which is always a good measure of a place.

Beautiful location and friendly owners.

Rated by Mr Martin reviewed on 30th October 2013

The property was in a quiet location, but only 1 mile to the pub serving excellent pub food for very reasonable prices. During our stay we visited 5 National Trust stately homes, all less than 1 hour's drive away. All in all a very enjoyable stay at Downsdale Cottage. A lovely cottage which I shall recommend to my friends and family.

Fantastic location with wonderful views. The cottage had a lovely homely feel on entering. A lovely open fire was burning to welcome us. We will definitely return, but hopefully for longer. And we will be recommending the cottage to our friends and family.

We have enjoyed our week-long holiday. All was perfect. The cottage is very well located, and ideal for daily getaways. The landscape is beautiful and ideal to relax. We especially liked the fantastic Poole's Cavern in Buxton.

The owners of the property were very friendly and more than willing to chat and offer to help start the coal fire. The property is a lovely place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet family holiday.

Loved the fire, perfect size. Well stocked with fire lighters, tinder and coal. The kitchen was brilliant, spacious and a great layout for socializing while cooking. The owners were fantastic, really friendly and helpful. The cottage was in a great location and we were able to walk from the cottage straight onto footpaths, bypassing the main roads.

The cottage and surrounding areas were simply stunning, we had a lovely family break and would definitely go back - no complaints whatsoever!

Rated by Mrs Mills reviewed on 15th June 2011

The cottage was literally spotlessly clean (and I am fussy!), very nice and welcoming and extremely well located. It had everything we needed. The owners were helpful but unobtrusive and had even lit a fire to welcome us. This cottage would be hard to beat for quality and value and I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

Rated by Ms Holman reviewed on 7th June 2011

Beautiful property location, immaculately presented. Owners very friendly and helpful.

Rated by Mrs Webb reviewed on 25th April 2011

Very relaxed and pleasent stay. Location does require a car as most walks are best accessed after a short drive Bedrooms are not huge, but sufficient Kitchen/dining area and open fire in the lounge were the highlights of the cottage Limited storage for dirty boots and coats!

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 3rd March 2011

The cottage was well appointed and cosy. The fire was lit when we arrived, and for that we were very grateful, as there was quite a lot of snow that day. A lovely tranquil setting, that feels isolated and remote, even though it is only a short drive into Buxton. If you want to forget any stresses, and get away from the hussle and bussle, and have some lovely walking and scenery right on the doorstep, then this is the place for you.
