Reviews

We went for a weekend the place was tired needed good re vamp and there was so many flys all Weekend could r get rid of them no matter how hard we tried and a 10am departure is far to early felt very rushed wouldn’t stay again good location for Alton towers.

“The owner is taking the proverbial.” The place is filthy; the dishwasher is broken, the fridge is broken; the oven filthy, the hob filthy, the bathrooms filthy, beds not made or changed. The bathrooms a disgrace, urine stains and pubic hair in beds, dirtiest pillows we have ever seen. Sykes should be ashamed to continue listing this property. Evidence, photos available

I agree with everything the previous reviewer has said. It is very sad that the property does not seem to have improved between 2014 and 2018. Indeed if I had seen that review I would not have booked it. It must have been lovely when the publicity photos were taken, but it did not live up to its image. It is such a shame because if the owners had kept up with the maintenance it could have been fabulous. On the plus side I must say that in spite of all the niggles (it helped to have three engineers in the family to make things work) we had a very happy time there as an enlarged family group. Being snowed in added to the magic (I think)! This review is written some months later; I do not know if the comments still apply. I would hope not.

I just wanted to say on behalf of myself and guests from this weekend, we had a wonderful time and the house was perfect. The house had everything we needed and was decorated to a high standard, which made the stay even more comfortable for us. It's a beautiful spot, especially the villages surrounding it - it's what I miss from the English countryside!

The accommodation was very comfortable and roomy for our family of 10. There was ample room for our barbecue in the outside area and there was a large, safe grassed area for the children to run around. The parking facilities were excellent.

Fantastic location, especially for Alton Towers which is a 5 minute walk. Very helpful host. The four bathrooms are an added bonus for the property. Would definitely visit again.

A high standard property in a great location. Perfect for a group to hit Alton Towers whilst others could chill in the countryside.

Rated by Mr Longden reviewed on 28th October 2014

We recently stayed in this property. Our group had 4 adults and 5 children. We were slightly disappointed as the property was very worn, walls had lots of chips and dirty marks. The kitchen was not that clean, cupboard doors and oven dirty. The BBQ was very small for a party of this size. Some of the beds had broken slats and therefore were not that comfortable. Overall the property was in a great location and could be really lovely, just needs a bit of work on it.

Rated by Moorcroftgirl reviewed on 17th April 2014

A lovely place to stay and just right for our large group. There was plenty of space including the outside patio area where we enjoyed a barbecue. We had reasonably good weather and enjoyed exploring the locality. The proximity to alton Towers was a bonus as it is within walking distance. The only complaints we had were just minor niggles as the bedside lamps (one in each room)were not working. We also found that the lighting at nigh-time in the living room was inadequate. The shower screen had been broken previously and needed replacing, the owner suggested we continue using the shower, however this led to constant water puddles on the floor and we had to buy microfibre cloths to place in the area. On the whole we all enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again if we needed to cater for a large party.

We were able to accommodate a large family group and there was plenty of space for everyone. The proximity to Alton Towers was also a bonus. The patio was a good size and there was plenty of outside space for the children to play. We all thoroughly enjoyed the holiday.

We all thought the set up of the house was absolutely lovely. It's a great open room where we could all spend time together, whether cooking, eating or sitting on the sofas. Plenty of bathrooms and toilets to accommodate everyone. I would definitely recommend this house to friends and family.

Rated by Mrs Daly reviewed on 6th November 2012

We were delighted with how close this property was to Alton Towers theme park. On the website it stated that it was only a 5 min walk but I didn't believe it would actually be this close. The decor and quality of the accommodation was excellent, obviously very well maintained.

Walking distance from Alton Towers and the Bulls Head pub. The garden and scenery were beautiful and perfectly quiet for night time. Bedrooms were tidy with plenty of storage and all four bathrooms were lovely. Perfect holiday, no complaints.

We loved that the cottage was so close to Alton Towers. It was exactly as we hoped it would be: clean, warm, modern and well equipped. The cottage conversion had been completed to a very high standard and it was a pleasure to spend our holiday there.

Superb accomodation. Excellant location for alton Towers, walking distance and saved hassle of parking. Accomodation was very spacious and ample room for 8 adults and 2 children. Great having the 4 bathrooms. The scenery surrounding the cottage was breath taking and created a very relaxing atmosphere making us feel rested after out holiday. The living area was spacious and plenty room for all to sit comfortably.

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 17th August 2011

Excellent location, ideal for our needs and ticked all the boxes for out trip to Alton Towers. It was great to be able to walk 'home' and not sit in a car with tired children. The cottage itself was very comfortable and large enough so that no one felt they were in each others space. Having 4 bathrooms was a great advantage, especially en-suites, providing everyone with privacy.

Rated by Mrs Rush reviewed on 28th June 2011

Our stay in this beautiful cottage was absolutely great. We had such a lovely relaxing time and it was very cosy! Great location for all amenities and Alton Towers is just a short walk away but no noise disturbance what's so ever! We loved everything about this stunning cottage. We would highly recommend anybody to stay there and we will definitely be returning in the near future.

Rated by Mrs Cooper reviewed on 23rd May 2011

Although within easy walking distance to Alton Towers, we felt no disturbance from being so close. The property is convenient for the southern Peak District. We enjoyed walking in the Manifold Valley and Dovedale. It's also convenient for other places of interest such as Trentham Gardens and the Potteries. We had meals out and were particularly pleased with The Old Star at Cotton.

Rated by Mr Holmes reviewed on 10th May 2011

We booked this cottage through Sykes and the whole process was very easy. The group was five couples (all old university friends) and this was virtually the only property we could find with five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Four double rooms (two with en suite) plus a twin room and two bathrooms was just brilliant for our purposes. We loved the massive lounge and the bid dinner table and benches which we could all sit round for a meal. We were travelling from around teh UK so the location was great too - right in the middle for us. The cottage had everything you needed (apart from bin liners!) - and if that's the only fault we can find you can see how much we liked it! Would definitely recommend this. Almost don't want to as we want to keep it a secret so it doesn't get fully booked!!

It's proximity to Alton Towers and the lovely rural location. The cottage gave us everything we needed to enjoy a lovely holiday and the weather was perfect.

Four bathrooms between five couples was great! The accommodation fit ten adults comfortably and was well located for our group. There were lovely touches like chocolates and milk to welcome us. The accommodation had everything we needed. We loved it and will definitely book again!

We loved every minute of it! It was a wonderful location and a wonderful property.

Rated by Dr Lang reviewed on 8th March 2011

Well equipped and well-decorated cottage. Very friendly and helpful owner, the fire being made up for our arrival was a lovely touch. The children absolutely loved the fort, despite the rain and snow!

Rated by Mrs Newman reviewed on 2nd March 2011

The house is lovely and the grounds are tidy and well presented, there was ample parking and it snowed when we were there and the steep driveway was gritted. The bathrooms were very clean as were all the living spaces. The beds were very comfy and the kitchen was clean and well supplied with disehes plates pans etc! it was lovely all sitting chatting round the fire and there was planty of seating for all 10 of us! We would book again and are looking into going back there this year!

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 12th January 2011

The location was lovely and it snowed which made it a lovely stay and very picturesque. It was nice having a large communal space for us all to share and we were able to walk to the local pub and village. There was lots of firewood and it was so nice to see a fire in the fireplace. The bathrooms were well equipped and were well maintained and very clean. As we were a large group of friends staying together there were more than enough bathrooms for us all to use. A beautiful place and we would love to book again some time.
