Hiraeth was a really fantastic place to stay. We loved the incredible open setting and the wonderful views across the countryside, exploring the endless paths around Hiraeth, the table tennis and sitting around the large table in the kitchen with family and friends. We will definitely return!

Our second visit to this gem, and it was better than the first time. The barn is full of character and charm, and the location is amazing. You can let your children roam safely and get close to wildlife. We saw hares run past the front door, and swifts nesting above the bedroom window. I had to work for a couple of days and had a great signal with Vodafone, so the lack of wifi was not an issue.

I visited Hiraeth with friends for a weekend. It had a perfect location with great views. The house was a good size with great space outside and inside. Had a wonderful time at this place however a few bad things. No WiFi. No service inside the house. If you want to contact the outside world you will have to leave the house, which can be a little frustrating in the 21st century. Also the overall hygiene of the accommodation could be improved however for some people it may seem satisfactory. Overall I had a great stay with great friends but I probably won’t return in a hurry.

The cottage is a stunning conversion and sits with spectacular views over the valley. The woodland walks, dark night skies and wildlife were exactly what we we were hoping for.

The homely feel to Hiraeth is fantastic and there is the added bonus of the 'sports barn' too. We have been there twice and have recommended it to many friends. The remote location enables you to disconnect from the world. Excellent property!

In a fantastic location with beautiful scenery. The house itself was perfect, it had wonderful décor and was very spacious. The underfloor heating was exceptional. I would highly recommend this property to anyone, especially families!

This was a fantastic property and a weekend was just not long enough. The cottage was a very high standard with great workmanship throughout. It is in a lovely location with fantastic views. Plenty of lovely walks from the cottage and others only a short drive away. The owners were very helpful. We would really like to return to this cottage again in the future.

We had a lovely stay here and enjoyed every minute of - the house itself is really comfortable and spacious. The wild flowers, birds, woodlands and pretty walks were wonderful. The view from the house is stunning; rolling hills and fields. We had small children with us who all loved the nearby stream, walks in the woods and space to run about in- a completely natural adventure playground! We'd definitely recommend a stay here to anyone wanting to enjoy some peace in the wilds in a really comfortable house with everything you might need...

A beautiful cottage with super views. Being able to walk directly from the cottage was great, and to return to relax in front of the wood burner in the cosy lounge watching the red kites was magical.

Rated by Mrs White reviewed on 1st November 2014

The scenery and peacefulness was great. Fabulous walks and no light pollution. We plan to visit again some time next year, but for a week next time. The piano and the table tennis were a big hit with all of us. We didn't feel the need to use the television.

Rated by Mrs Burton reviewed on 30th September 2014

The property looks fantastic, has a real homely feel and lots of space, very peaceful which allowed us to really unwind. Very well equipped. The property was lovely and warm and on the couple of nights where the temperature dropped the log burner warmed the house up a treat. It's a great example of a barn conversion.

The fact that this was our 3rd visit to Hiraeth speaks volumes. Another wonderful holiday. Will definitely be going back.

Rated by Miss Fairhurst reviewed on 15th June 2014

The stay was fantastic! The ambience of Hiraeth due to its location, decor, design and layout made it a wonderful experience. The outdoor games area was a welcome distraction and the nearby activities, walks and bike routes were all enjoyed too! I couldn't recommend this place enough and after using many Sykes cottages, I would without doubt consider coming back to Hiraeth.

Lovely barn conversion, terrific views, superb location.

Rated by Mr Hillman reviewed on 7th September 2013

The location of the cottage is perfect, high up a small track/road, which meant great views of the surrounding countryside. The area is great for walking, Monty our greyhound loved it (especially spying a rabbit - obviously dogs arent allowed off lead). Down the road is a place called fishpools which is also great for walking. The house is stunning, roomy and cosy with everything you could need in the kitchen. There are views from each room, even the bathrooms! A nice touch was the photo albums showing each stage of it being built. The table tennis was also a lot of fun!

Rated by LauraCook81 reviewed on 2nd July 2013

Very nice, countryside location. Lovely big house with everything we needed to make our stay relaxed and fun. I really liked that we could take our dog, as this was our main holiday requirement.

Rated by Mrs Cook reviewed on 28th June 2013

Wonderful location, beautiful walks straight from the front door, appreciated by people and puppy alike! Secluded enough to feel like a real get-away-from-it-all spot, but close enough to all kinds of amenities. A comfortable, cosy house that felt like home ten minutes after walking through the front door!

Rated by Mr Shelton reviewed on 28th December 2012

There was a real attention to detail in the cleanliness and preparation of the rental. It made 'moving in' so easy. The log burner and comfortable beds made the environment one in which to instantly relax being able to watch superb skies pass by Wonderful cycling and walking. Access to interesting places and Hay on Wye was fantastic for pottering and bookshops. The kitchen at Hiraeth made cooking a pleasure - there are places to eat round and about but you do need to drive to them. Staying in was no hardship Beautiful and characterful properly, wonderfully presented and plenty of space for boots, wet kit and outdoor clothing. Superb walking straight out of the back door and up on to the hills.

This cottage was finished to a very high standard. This place was a great getaway holiday from all the hussle and bustle of our busy life. It was a large place that fitted 7 adults easily. We spent a lovely week celebrating our daughters 18th Birthday. It has a wonderful large kitchen/diner which holds a massive Oak table which we had good old fashion family meals. First class cottage. We will be definitely be booking for next year

Rated by Mrs Phillipson reviewed on 3rd November 2012

There were views from the property. Heating was very effective and property lovely and warm. Provision of cleaning products and tea towels to get you going.

Rated by Mr Bryant reviewed on 19th October 2012

Hiraeth was a beautiful, peaceful holiday home in a stunning location. To come back to this property after miles of walking and exploring was a delight. I actually looked forward to cooking in the lovely (well equipped) kitchen. Even the dog did not want to leave. Can not wait to go back. Hopefully really soon!

Rated by Miss Fairhurst reviewed on 3rd August 2012

This is the second year we have stayed at this cottage, which should speak for itself. We will be booking again for next year.

Rated by Mr Cook reviewed on 30th July 2012

The setting was stunning, we did a little bit of walking and explored the Elan Valley. The owners were friendly and helpful. The property was lovely and they had catered for our 10 month old son. We will definitely return.

Rated by Mr Thomas reviewed on 26th July 2012

The location was wonderful and the building was beautifully restored with the highest quality joinery and building. It felt like a dream home but was very comfortable and welcoming.

Rated by Mrs Stanley reviewed on 28th November 2011

We absolutely loved this cottage, the setting is fabulous, it was in a more elevated position than expected and has great views. Lovely to be able to go for walks from the doorstep and come back to a cosy and comfortable cottage. We welcomed the games cupboard full of board games and puzzles that our 5 year old thought rather special and the table tennis in the open fronted garage

The stunning views! Photos online of both cottage & scenery did neither of them justice.

Rated by Miss Lane reviewed on 5th September 2011

Property was spectacular. Red Kites and Buzzards literally fly past the living room window. Lovely walks on the doorstep. A really relaxing place.

Rated by Mrs Pearson reviewed on 28th July 2011

The house was absolutely fantastic - easily the best I've stayed in in the area. The location was supreme - felt totally isolated with a spectacular view. The house itself was extremely spacious and well furnished with some unique touches that made it a holiday to remember - the piano, the table tennis, the massive kitchen with a beautiful oak table, the sumptuous master bedroom, the views from the balcony. The price was great for what we got.
