Wonderfully idyllic setting. Perfect for relaxation and walking. Local pub and hotel are very welcoming. The cottage provides all that's needed for a lovely week away.

This was our third stay at Arklehurst so we knew exactly what to expect. It's perfect for us. We love the cottage, it's warm and cosy with effective heating and lovely coal burning stove for chillier evenings. There are walks straight from the door. It is a beautiful local area with very friendly locals, including in the pub and the hotel/bar within walking distance.

We love Arklehurst. This was our second visit and we will definitely be returning again. The cottage is well equipped with everything a self-catering cottage requires. Arklehurst was warm and cosy on our arrival. The coal burning stove made the living room even more cosy and the coal shed was well stocked with coal and kindling. The stone floor in the kitchen was easy to mop when coming in muddy or wet from our walks. There are beautiful walks in Arkengarthdale right from the door. The beds are very comfortable too with lovely luxurious duvets to snuggle up in. The local pub is lovely; very traditional and welcoming-it's only around the corner from Arklehurst. A short walk away is the CB in which serves lovely food and is also worth a visit. I would highly recommend this property!

Arklehurst was lovely. We love Langthwaite and this was a wonderful place to stay. Everything in the cottage was perfectly suited to our needs. The coal house was well stocked and it was lovely to curl up in front of the fire, although it's May, it's still chilly in the evening! The bed was comfortable and the bedrooms were nice and spacious. We thoroughly enjoyed walks straight from the door too - just what we'd been looking forward to (and the dog enjoyed it too). We'll definitely stay again and would recommend to others.

We liked everything about it and would happily go again. It is spacious, warm, comfortable, characterful and in a glorious location.

Rated by Ms Gibbs reviewed on 25th April 2015

The quarry tiled kitchen floor was easy to mop clean as it was needed as a reception area for taking off muddy boots, and holding the dogs before showering them, as we do when we are at home. The weather was very cold, the heating was adequate, but the best part being the Morso cast stove, plenty of kindling, and a well stocked coal house. Nights in by a glowing fire being a highlight. The old range, and historic artifacts hung on the ceiling beams further enhanced the authentic feel.

Lovely traditional Dales cottage in the tiny hamlet of Langthwaite. Beautiful and dramatic scenery surround the cottage. The bedding was of a high quality and the beds very comfortable.

The moment we opened the door we felt 'at home', it was warm, welcoming and very clean. There are walks to do straight from the cottage. It was a particularly comfortable place to relax.

The cottage exceeded our expectations. We were extremely pleased with it and if we decide to go to that part of Yorkshire again we would definitely book this cottage. We had such an enjoyable stay, the welcome pack was very useful and informative, as were the previous visitors comments.

This was a much needed getaway, and a perfect location in every way. Stunning countryside and within reach of many places to visit. We would definitely return.

Very cosy cottage very well equipted. Lovely walks nearby. Langthwaite is a very pretty little village with small friendly pub. Parking just a little bit away from the cottage. Only drawback is it has no garden to sit out in.

Beautiful location, perfect for a family holiday - the rest of our party were staying in Reeth, and loved coming to start a day's walking in Langthwaite - and end with a pint in the Red Lion!

Rated by Mr Brown reviewed on 4th March 2012

The quietness of the Dales is always a joy. The open fire in the cottage made for cosy evenings. The cottage was spacious and well equipped.

Rated by Mrs Everitt reviewed on 18th October 2011

The cottage we had asked for allowed dogs but we were told this wasn't available. We were therefore surprised on arriving, with our dog, to see a sign in the window "no dogs allowed." Before we left we vacuumed downstairs thoroughly and even washed the kitchen floor to ensure no dog footmarks were left there. We were surprised to note that we needed to provide our own toilet paper as there was a part-used roll in place only. There were leaflets in the cottage about Cathole Cottages, who we presumed were the owners, although no mention of Sykes cottages.
