My husband and i celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at the Cow byre, it was so special the owners was so accommodating, wine, chocolates, biscuits was there wen we arrived. The cottage was so beautiful, wen you opened the back door it was amazing, Cumbria is so beautiful. All i can say please visit this cottage, you will be mesmerised xxxx

The cottage was absolutely beautiful, as was the surrounding area- could not fault the amenities. The space in the cottage was very well thought out, cosy, comfortable and cute. Lovely little gifts left which we enjoyed and the bath was great! Only problems were that there was extremely loud and disruptive building work going on in the garden attached to the cottage from 8am which we were not informed of. This obviously woke us up, was not peaceful and the huge crain over the house was a little off putting on arrival. The owner was very apologetic and offered us a generous discount given the circumstances, for which we were very grateful. Pans in the kitchen were provided but some were very greasy? Thank you for a lovely stay, would be more than happy to return in the future.

We were looking for a weekend break for our 23rd wedding anniversary around Kirkby Stephen and when we saw this one the decision was easy. Quaint, unusual, four-poster, great bath position... Well, the reality is even better. Didn't need the log burner as it was so mild (bit of a shame) but, yes, the gowns and slippers are a great touch as are the items in the fridge. Bed excellent, bath excellent, shower excellent, kitchen area excellent, parking excellent, Hey, we couldn't find fault with it at all. Would be happy to return in the future.

We are so happy with we found this little cottage. It was perfect. So well thought out for the space available. The king size bed was super comfortable. We loved the glass patio doors and seating area overlooking the amazing view. We were not short of anything. We loved the slipper and dressing gowns we felt like we were at an exclusive spa! The location is about 10 mins away from Kirkby Stephen which has a Co-op and lots of little shops and petrol station. There are plenty of pubs in the area although perhaps not within walking distance. We chose to eat in most nights. The kitchen has everything we needed to make a full Sunday lunch. The local area is perfect of outdoor activities. We spent the week gill scrambling and mountain biking. The Lake District is close enough to visit but we preferred enjoying the quieter local areas. The secure bike storage was a big plus point! The owners Mark and Lisa couldn’t have been more helpful. We will certainly return. Thanks you for creating an amazing place.

Stayed here for a long weekend courtesy of our daughters , and one of their boyfriends... from the moment we opened the door , it was WOW !!! The place just oozes character , charm and coziness Beautiful scenery on your doorstep , red squirrels, little mouse in the wall and birds galore. The bath in the bedroom was amazing , so much imagination has gone into this place. Very very quirky , would love to return in summer! A visit to the Tan Hill pub is a must , such a remote place , Kirkby Stephen was a welcome surprise , good range of shops etc . Would thoroughly recommend a stay at the cow byre .

Have had lovely week away at this beautiful cottage! Waking up to those beautiful views every morning was a real treat! Location Is great area for both the yorkshire dales and for visiting the lakes. Not far from main roads. In peaceful area and views overlooking the dales. Amenities All the facilities you could want really, the roll top bath being the highlight! The log burner was also great and the bed very comfortable. Kitchen could maybe do with extra shelve or something for storing food otherwise can not fault it! Recommendations Walking- Ingelton Falls (South Yorkshire Dales), Aira Force (Ullswater) Local Food- Mango Tree Indian (Kirkby Stephen) Places- Scar White Cave (Ingelton), Appleby Spa Hotel (Appleby), Mountain Biking (Grizdale). Thankyou for a lovely stay and the little treats left for us on arrival was a lovely touch will recommend to family and friends :)

The home owner as given everything a couple could need to make this stay most comfortable! The homeowner gave us very warm hospitality. AMAZING is all I can say! I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a honeymoon or just getaway from busy city life.

The Cow Byre is a beautiful and quirky cottage with great views. The owner has gone out of their way to think of everything - making it a real home from home. The location is really peaceful yet not too far from the nearest town. Loved it!

The cow byre was perfect, and just what my partner and I wanted for a romantic getaway. The view from the sofa and sitting outside with a glass of wine was particularly amazing. As it's in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District it's perfect for ramblers, although most of the classic walks in the lakes were a bit of a drive away. The owners completely leave you to it, so you're in your own little haven.

We just returned from a three night stay at Cow Byre Cottage. The cottage is maintained to a very high standard and one of the quirkiest places I've stayed. Cow Byre has a lovely homely feel about it which is even better once you get the open log burning stove going on a cold March windy night. We took all of our own provisions and everything else we needed for a nice weekend away from it all. The grounds are very welcoming and all prior instructions are easy to follow i.e. where to park, where the key is etc. The owners where very thoughtful in the gifts they left. I won't go on too much about the Cottage as you need to visit for yourselves. The area is a walkers paradise with open fells, nature reserves etc. If you don't want to venture out on arrival to Cow Byre you need no go any further than the window as it's a bird watchers paradise, cameras to the ready and enjoy your stay; I know we did.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Cow Byre for 3 nights for a short break during his birthday period. The property was exquisite and luxurious with roll top bath, wood burning stove and four poster bed, absolutely 5 star. The break was everything we wanted and more, the accommodation had everything we needed for a more than comfortable stay as well as lovely extras such as bathrobes, slippers and a great DVD collection. Upon arrival we were greeted with a bottle of wine, a personalised card, chocolates and eggs and milk in the fridge! The views were superb and and the surrounding areas fantastic and accessible. Lisa and Mark provided a useful folder containing info about the property and also surrounding pubs, activities and things to see. We honestly could not fault a single thing about this accommodation or our stay- we shall definately be returning! Thanks again Kate & David

Everything was just wonderful I would highly recommend staying here - although possibly not in January as the weather was appalling! It is easy to see why this cottage is popular for honeymoons. The bedroom is like the poshest room in the best hotel you could imagine. The whole cottage is very well equipped, though a little short on storage space. The owners are extremely friendly, without being intrusive. The setting high on the side of the Eden Valley is idyllic, and you will see lots of birds and other wildlife from the living room. From the welcome pack to the bathrobes, it is obviously a cottage that has a lot of love put into it. There was even a 'welcome' card clearly selected to reflect our enthusiasm for butterflies. You feel more like a welcome guest than a customer.

Lovely personal touches, such as chocolate, bottle of wine and cookies waiting upon our arrival and fresh milk and eggs all made for a wonderfully relaxing three nights. A perfect base to tour the Lakes but plenty of local walks if you dont fancy driving once you get there. I cannot recommend The Cow Byre enough and hope that one day we will be fortunate enough to return to this small piece of heaven. :)

The place is immaculate and decor is completely my taste. We spent the first day just saying how we could live here! I really can't rate it enough. Mark and Lisa were fab. Really friendly and helpful. The cottage is full of information on where to visit, which was really helpful. It's really nice to actually go somewhere and it be this perfect as there is usually something that can put a bit of a dampner on your holiday but there has literally been nothing. This has been nicer than our 2 week honeymoon abroad, even though the weather hasn't been brilliant, it hasnt mattered as its just nice to be here and everything be so easy!
