Reviews

My wife booked last year wasn't sure if we could go, but kept up to-date by the owners. We were told about the cleaning process and what we might want to bring for our own peace of mind. We have had the best weeks holiday for a long time, cottage was fantastic in a most peaceful village. Monty the dog really enjoyed himself, especially watching the birds come and go in the beautiful garden. Great walks all around with great views, can't recommend it enough you haven't seen the last of us. Love Sue, Stu and Monty.

Our stay in Myrtle Cottage was just perfect. Aileen and Colin have thought of everything you could possibly need. Once you close the door you could hibernate from the world, no need for a car from the moment you arrive. We completed one of the vast array of walks which were suggested from the front door which was easy to follow and helped shift some Christmas calories! The added bonus of going at Christmas was the cottage was beautifully decorated which included a gift under the tree as well as one in the fridge The locals are a delight and made us feel really welcome especially in the local pub - Fox and Hounds. We popped in there a few times, including Christmas Day, for a couple of pints of the local ale, a must try for anyone! We would certainly recommend this delightful cottage as the perfect base for a chillaxing holiday or as a base for exploring the beautiful countryside. On our list for a return visit

Even though I only stayed 2 nights, Myrtle Cottage was perfect! From the cosy feel to the attention to detail, this little gem of a cottage couldn't be faulted in my opinion! It was clean, well thought out, well stocked kitchen as far as utensils and cookware, quiet and even somewhere to sit outside in the sun whilst having a cool glass of something special. Great location for getting around the Dales, with Hawes close by, Bainbridge, Leyburn, West Burton and walk from the doorstep. I didn't need my car for 2 days! The owner was very attentive and approachable, even left a couple of welcome gifts too which was very considerate. I will definitely be booking again! Thank you for a wonderful stay, I left feeling very relaxed to say the least!

Had a wonderful Christmas get away with hubby and dog (Lucky). The cottage was beautifully clean and decorated to a high standard throughout it was even trimmed for Christmas including a lovely present under the tree from the lovely owner Aileen. Aileen was very helpful on confirming the booking and even checked we were having a good time. Village shop is there for the essentials and very friendly...everyone we met was warm and welcoming and the crib service was lovely on Christmas eve...all in all a perfect Christmas hideaway..... loved it!

This is a beautiful cottage, well decorated and extremely comfortable, a home from home in fact. There is a lovely little garden with a table and chairs where we enjoyed a bottle of wine in the sunshine. The next door neighbour Diane was extremely friendly and we enjoyed a few chats with her. I did miss my dishwasher but for a week it wasn't too much of a hardship. The cottage is situated on a narrow street which is basically only wide enough for one car at a time and is also used by numerous farm vehicles. The residents all park on one side of the street, unfortunately the two neighbours opposite Myrtle Cottage both park in the middle of their house walls so no one else can park there although there is certainly enough room for two cars on either side of the entrance archway. We were able to park further up on the grass verge but this wasn't very convenient when loading and unloading the car on a daily basis especially with our older dog. The local Fox and Hounds is very friendly and everyone meets there on a Thursday night before the Fish and Chip van comes at 7.30, The Wensleydale Heifer is fantastic for food and well worth a visit .

My best friend and I spotted Myrtle Cottage immediately when viewing places to stay and we both loved it, it was even better in reality. There is nothing you can fault. Everything has been carefully thought of to ensure whoever stays here has the most hassle free stay. The attention to detail with all the decor, furnishings and quaint little touches are of a very high standard and the cottage was scrupulously clean. Our holiday was purely for peace and relaxation and we certainly achieved that. Any neighbours we saw were so friendly and local trips to Leyburn were enjoyed as it is also a very friendly town. We also visited Hawes to the Wensleydale Creamery and drove to York on another day. The scenery is stunning. We didn't care if it rained most of the time as we loved the cottage so much anyway. Communications between myself and owner Aileen were beyond first class. Like another guest who has stated on here, I am amazed that more people haven't written reviews as the guest book in the cottage is full of compliments. Would HIGHLY recommend to stay here, we loved it :0))))

An utterly beautiful cottage which was decorated and furnished to a very high spec, with extra personal touches that made it a home. It was extremely clean and tidy and the owner gave clear instructions for everything that needed it. The location of the cottage was lovely and the neighbours and locals were so friendly.

We loved everything from the location to the village amenities, and of course the excellent standard of the cottage. The cottage had everything we needed and more. It was very clean and well decorated, a real home from home feeling. There was an excellent choice of walks from the village.

The owners put a lot of love and effort in this cottage. We have stayed in Myrtle Cottage before and gave it a great tripadvisor review. Well we would like to give it another great review. 12 months on and still the excellent standards throughout. Clean, warm, cosy. Decor & soft furnishings updated from last year and all in character of this delightful cottage. The wood burning stove is very warm and we even had Halloween candles left out for us. Neighbours very friendly and remembered us from last year. Local shop keeper was fantastic and reserved newspapers and bread for us on a daily basis. Local pub Fox & Hounds excellent value for money and the Proprietors very friendly & welcoming. The Wensleydale Heifer Restaurant was a lovely holiday treat on our last night. The early bird menu great value for money. Our 14 year old son enjoyed table tennis at the village church hall. Lovely village and all welcoming. We will be back again.

To this cottage I would give 200% to everything. We had a lovely time and you could not have asked for more at Myrtle Cottage. The owners have thought of everything, I have never been anywhere so beautiful and clean. Everything you need was certainly there, it is a credit to the owners and we would certainly go again.

It's a shame this place doesn't have more Trip Adviser reviews because the visitors book in the cottage is bursting with excellent reviews... and we added ours too. The cottage had everything we needed for us to enjoy a comfortable, relaxed break with our 9 month old baby and our dog. They've thought of everything! Shame the weather wasn't better so we could make use of the beautiful little flowery courtyard out back. If there was anything we'd forgotten, Leyburn was only a 5 min drive away with a Co-op that sold the essentials. As mentioned, the weather didn't allow for much walking but the folder provided by the owner is full of info about walks in and around the area. You definitely wouldn't be stuck for things to do. All-in-all, this place come recommended if you need a little quiet place to base yourself while you explore a picturesque corner of Yorkshire.

A lovely property near to several excellent Dales' pubs that made a busy week exploring the countryside so much easier and enjoyable. There is little more one could ask for - a dream holiday in a dream location!

Rated by Mr Davies reviewed on 24th March 2015

This cottage is situated in the beautiful Dales, walking country in easy reach. There are interesting places to visit, such as Leyburn, Richmond, Fountains Abbey, Ripon, and many more. There are local places to eat, which are dog(and people) friendly, such as The Hungry Heffer, and the pub on the green in West Burton. All very welcoming. The scenery in the area is spectacular, with many beautiful waterfalls, and there are castles to visit, such as Bolton Castle.. We enjoyed our stay, even though it was wet!

The owners of this cottage should be proud of themselves. On arrival it was clean, warm and welcoming, with a lovely note and cake waiting for us. It was bigger than we expected and very well equipped, dont worry if you have forgotten anything because it is there, even a box of various mobile phone chargers. The back garden is lovely. The bedrooms were spacious, decorated lovely. The shower room complete with double shower and heated towel rail, plenty of hot water and clean towels. The kitchen has every utencil you need with a large fridge/freezer, excellent oven, washing machine and again plenty of hot water. The lounge is very cosy with its wood burning stove. The surrounding area is lovely with great views and plenty of walks to other lovely villages. We would recommend this cottage to anyone and we will definately be back.
