Location Details

The village of Ballybunion is a mere 35 miles from the famous Killarney National Park and was the site of the first transatlantic telephone transmission made from the Marconi wireless station in 1919. Ballybunion is steeped in a rich history that can be traced back to the 14th century, when Ballybunion castle was established. In 1923 the castle came under the care of the Office of Public Works, who remain its custodians to this day. The village is also home to the Ballybunion golf course; ranked in the top ten golf courses in the world. Ballybunion is a site of great natural beauty and possesses a wide range of flora and fauna. Bird-lovers and wildlife enthusiast can often see a multitude of birds nesting and foraging including seagulls, shags, cormorants, herons and various other migratory birds. Many marine animals can be observed along the coast, such as seals, porpoises, dolphins, lobster and salmon. The waters and surrounding countryside have won the European Blue Flag award.

County Kerry is a mystical and unspoilt part of Ireland, with spectacular natural beauty and a fascinating history. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, it features many sandy beaches, rocky inlets and stunning peninsulas.

Reviews

Moybella is located off a busy road between Listowell and Ballybunnion. It is a tiny cottage which sits behind the owner's home, and there is a large green lawn out the back door. On our arrival, the host was friendly and showed us around the cottage. The cottage is cozy to be sure. You couldn't be in any part of the house while another was sleeping without the light showing in the bedroom. The kitchen is very small and only basically furnished with odds and ends of dishes and flatware. There is no dishwasher. The grill pan in the oven was greasy as it wasn't washed after the previous visitors. When we arrived there was only a small partial roll of bathroom tissue and when I asked if we could have another roll, the "hostess" was so rude.in her response. She reminded me that she provides towels and linens and that this is self-catering, which means that I am to provide my own. There are many ways something like this can be said, and she chose the one that was brusque and unfriendly. We stayed in 6 other cottages on this trip alone, and none was as poorly stocked as this one. To his credit, the owner came after us with a new roll, but we didn't use it and left it for the next guest, along with an extra. The other thing that we found odd was that there was a bottom sheet on the bed but no top sheet. Do they wash the duvet covers between guests? We weren't comfortable with this, and again, this twas the only place that was so minimal. Moybella cost as much or more than the other places we stayed, and it was not nearly as nice as the others. Because of the busy road, we couldn't just walk out the door and go exploring as we like to do. We had to drive to get to places where walking was safe. Overall, the place was a huge disappointment and the level of hospitality was very low.

The property is very light and airy and I felt comfortable there from the moment I entered. The bed is very comfortable and it was nice to sit out on the patio for breakfast or in the evenings. The owners couldn't have been nicer, they are a lovely couple who made me feel very welcome.

I had a delightful stay at Moybella House, It is in a peaceful location with undisturbed views of Marconi Hill. It was spotlessly clean and everything that I needed was provided. This house is well located with easy, direct access to Ballybunnion and Listowell. The beach, supermarket and restaurants are only a short drive away and there are many interesting local areas to explore. This property is owned by a delightful couple who could not have been more friendly or helpful. I highly recommend staying here and hope that I can return one day.
