The pretty town of Silsden, set on the edge of the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, commands sweeping views of the River Aire and its valley, and has a thriving community with local amenities. Although Silsden was originally an agricultural town, the construction of the nearby Leeds and Liverpool Canal meant that it later became an important centre for the mill industry, however the local economy is now largely supported by tourism, and it has become a perfect place to stay and explore the local area. Down the Aire Valley lies historic Skipton, known as “The Gateway to the Dales”, a quaint market town boasting an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street. In 2008, the Academy of Urbanism voted the high street as the best shopping spot in Britain, and the Copper Dragon Brewery, opened in 2002, is highly rated in the CAMRA listings.

We had a lovely week at Kestrel Cottage. After a long drive we were met by the owners and shown our cottage. Fresh homemade scones and jam were a welcomed treat and milk in the fridge too. Cottage was warm and cozy and had everything you could possibly need. Beautiful hilltop location with fantastic views across the dales. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic getaway holiday. Very nice walks in the area and there are maps of detailed walks to go for from the cottage. The cottage itself is lovely and homely. Our dog was welcome too which made the place feel a home away from home. With a helpful friendly welcome in unusually snowy conditions the owners even helped to send left property- thank you!

I absolutely loved the remoteness of this cottage and its accompanying scenery. The cottage was warm, well equipped and wonderfully welcoming. Indeed, the freshly baked mince pies presented on arrival were extremely well received. It is clear that much thought has been given to ensure guests make the most of their stay. There is lots of information about local amenities. There is also lots of detailed information about local walks. I would not hesitate in recommending this cottage to others.

Beautiful hill top location with fantastic views across the Dales. Exceptional cottage - cosy and warm and furnished to a high standard and with everything you could need. Dog friendly too with an enclosed garden. Liz and Tom are great hosts - home made scones and jam on arrival. Silsden town is only a short drive down the hillside with plenty of shops pubs and restaurants. So much to do and see in this area a week wasn't long enough!

We stayed at Kestrel Cottage last week and it was lovely. Tom & Liz are so welcoming and helpful without being intrusive and Liz's freshly baked scones on arrival were to die for! The scenery was beautiful and it was very tranquil (bar the occasional cow or sheep!). In a good location for the southern part of the Dales, the cottage has all mod cons and all the facilities you'd want. Highly recommended - you won't be disappointed!

This was the best cottage we have stayed in. Well equipped and very comfortable. There was everything we needed. It was a first class accommodation. It is very quiet, but in a good location to visit many places.

We arrived at the cottage, after an awful journey. We were met by the owners, who showed us round. They left scones, butter and jam for us, along with milk and tea. This was fantastic. The cottage is absolutely stunning. The views are great, it is extremely comfortable, and was equipped with everything we needed. The cottage has a dishwasher and washing machine, which is really great. The free wi-fi and Freesat television, make it home from home. We would recommend this to anybody, and would love to return in the future.

Kestrel Cottage was superbly equipped, with every attention to detail. The owner was very welcoming and most helpful, but never intrusive. We feel that this cottage is truly 5*, & if there was a 6* rating, it would be well-deserved. We shall return.

A wonderful cottage and in immaculate condition. The roaring log fire with good supply of wood made the weekend very enjoyable. There were great walks from the doorstep with lots of information provided. There were wonderful views and it was a peaceful location, but the local town was available for the usual sundries if needed. It was dog friendly too!

We stayed for a short break at Kestrel Cottage, just 3 nights. The cottage is fabulous, beautifully renovated and tastefully decorated. It has everything you are likely to need and is a most relaxing place to stay. Incredibly peaceful with just the sound of the occasional sheep and cow in the surrounding fields. Views from the cottage and garden are lovely, looking down over Silsden and the hills above. The cottage is really comfortable, very warm with underfloor heating and a woodburner too. Kitchen has everything you could need and the bathroom is more than adequate with a very nice shower and always loads of hot water. The ample parking and free wifi all make the experience relaxing and trouble free. Tom and Liz are incredibly welcoming and friendly. We would have no hesitation in highly recommending the cottage (or the larger one next door).
