This wonderful semi-detached cottage is located right on the canal towpath, just a hundred yards from the Chirk Aqueduct running high above the River Ceiriog, which forms the border between England and Wales. Dating from 1847, this former Victorian wharf man’s cottage seamlessly blends character features alongside modern fixtures and fittings to provide a holiday home of real distinction. Head up the stairs to find three comfy bedrooms, two of which look over the canal, where you will also find a family bathroom. On the ground floor, the cosy sitting room boasts a roaring open fire, whilst to the rear of the cottage is a modern and well-equipped kitchen next to a dining room, as well as a shower room. Step out of the back door and you will find a beautiful lawned garden with both a patio and a decked area, where you can sit and relax as the canal boats chug quietly past. Stroll out of the front door and you immediately become a member of the canal boat community. Turn right and within a minute’s walk, you find yourself on the Thomas Telford designed Chirk Aqueduct which takes you 70 feet above the Ceiriog Valley into North Wales. Turn left along the towpath and down the road and you will soon reach the Bridge Inn where a warm welcome awaits. The small town of Chirk has a delightful selection of shops, cafes and pubs, as well as being home to Chirk Castle, a magnificent National Trust owned medieval castle which not only features many fascinating historical artefacts, but also boasts fabulous gardens and woodland. Situated on the Welsh border, guests at Aqueduct Cottage can easily access the North Wales towns of Llangollen and Bala, as well as being just a short drive from the Roman city of Chester, famous for its racecourse, Roman Walls and the world-famous Chester Zoo. A superb base for a holiday that you will never forget.

Reviews

This was our second stay at Aqueduct Cottage, and it was as welcoming and delightful as the first. The owner was very helpful but not intrusive, a good combination. Overall a good location and property.

A fantastic location by the canal and aquaduct and also for visiting National Trust houses, gardens and other local places of interest. The accommodation was first class and the owner was very helpful. What more could you ask for? I would certainly recommend this cottage for a holiday

The location was excellent, being right beside the Llangollen Canal and a few steps from the Chirk Aqueduct and tunnel. There were plenty of narrow boats to watch. The cottage was beautiful and very well equipped and the outside areas were very good with more than enough seating and a pleasant garden. There are many places to visit within half an hours drive away and plenty of walks to do. The owner of the property was very friendly. All in all a great holiday!

We loved the location of this cottage. The position next to the canal with narrow boats passing, only a few yards from the lovely aquaduct with viaduct behind, lovely hills and countryside to explore on our bikes and on foot. Chirk castle is a pleasant walk away and Chirk itself with quirky shops, tea shops and restaurants a short walk away. Chirk station is very close and convenient for Chester, Shrewsbury, and Birmingham by road and rail. The owner was very welcoming. We had a lovely peaceful holiday and would be back at half term if it weren't already booked.
