Location Details

Resting on the western bank of Lough Swilly is the seaside resort of Portsalon and home to one of Ireland's top golf courses. Portsalon makes for a wonderful base for exploring the Fanad Peninsula and boasts a picturesque harbour at Ballymastocker Bay where you will find one of the most spectacular beaches in Ireland. Visitors can try out many outdoor pursuits including golf, surfing, fishing, diving and kayaking or if you prefer to explore the region on wheels, the Knockella Coastal drive encompasses excellent views of Ballymastocker Bay and Lough Swilly. The historic town of Rathmullan, south of Portsalon provides a lovely afternoon out where you can take a tour of the Kinnegar Brewery and hopefully sample some of local produce! With something for everyone, Portsalon is a wonderful location for Donegal and the North West.

The West of Ireland conjures up many images; thatched, whitewashed cottages, a flock of sheep on a narrow road, an emerald green field with a stone wall, or the Atlantic waves crashing into towering cliffs and rocky shores.

Reviews

Having read the reviews on 1 Ard Carraig I thought , nothing can be that good.... How wrong I was! It is beautifully appointed the rooms airy and spotless. We tried to find something that was not in the Kitchen but failed miserably Every kitchen aid yon could wish for in in there. The beds are comfy and the rooms spacious. Wendy and Andrew have thought about their customers even leaving bath robes and beach shoes to enable you to get in and out of the superb hot tub in comfort, every sort of towel is available to you and spares are in the cupboard if needed. The welcome booklet is very informative and easy to follow for each of the appliances have been written so you can operate them quickly. I spent many an evening and early morning sat in the, what I called my reading nook, reading and watching the sun rise/set over Ballymastoker beach. The only let down with the holiday, which by no means affected 1 Ard Carraig was that the local Pub and Restaurant were closed for the season dispite us having checked beforehand that they would be open. This was a holiday chosen for us to relax from our hectic daily life style, 1 Ard Carraig fulfilled that criteria with ease and we will return

I spent a week in this amazing house. I had the most amazing stay....there is literally everything you could every want or need here. The views are breathtaking. The owners are absolutely lovely, even leaving me a bday card and gift This place is everything I wanted and more. Can't wait to my next visit

Had a fabulous stay, with my family and 2 dogs, for a week in May, the bungalow is set in a stunning location, and the owners have thought of absolutely everything possible to make your stay 5 star+. The surrounding countryside is spectacular to say the least, we ate locally at the Golf club and Sarah's restaurant and weren't disappointed, we hope to make a booking here next year, and I was really sorry when our week there finished as I will miss my daily hot-tub dip.

This is the second time we have visited this property and we have already planned our third visit. We had pets with us who just love the beach, being only a 5min walk before you are on the beach is just brilliant. The house has everything you need for an enjoyable, relaxed holiday with a warm cosy feeling. Highlights have to be the use of BBQ and hot tub while the dogs could play in the large enclosed garden. Shops close by with local fresh produce and a hidden lil gem of a seafood cafe just a short 10min drive to Kerrykeel. Amazing! Local pub and restaurant within walking distance, worthwhile to take a drive along the Wild Atlantic way and see the scenery. Give me a week at No.1 over a week in Spain anytime...thanks again for letting us stay and we look forward to our return next year.

A week at 1 Ard Carraig is a week well spent! This lovely home provides stunning views of the beach and is within short walking distance of the nearby restaurant/bar, Sarah's, where you will find friendly staff and great food. The property has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday - personal highlights were the hot tub and BBQ. We spent many nights cooking and enjoying local produce from the Lennonside butchers and others walking over to the neighbouring village of Rosnakill for a great pint at the Country Road Bar and Inn - where they opened the bar solely for us turning up!! Fantastic home. Friendly village. Fabulous scenery. Can't wait to return. Thanks so much Wendy and Andrew!

This cottage contained everything and more a household could wish for. The fine details impressed me even down to the dogs bowls and leads. The view is stunning and the living room makes you feel you are sitting right in the middle of it. The cottage has an excellent energy and the proprietors are so lovely and friendly. I am planning to be back in the future, plus recommending this to my friends and family.

The house is amazing, loved every minute. The owners have obvious pride in this home, they were so helpful and warm in every aspect and we were sad leaving the home as that's what it was to us, a home. Not one complaint! Outstanding!
