Location Details

Ideally placed for exploring northern Cumbria, the hamlet of Milton is close to all of the region's most popular attractions including Hadrians Wall, the Solway Firth coast and the Lake District National Park. The nearby market town of Brampton dates back to the Roman occupation, and shows evidence of attacks from Scottish border raiders and Jacobite uprisings. Apparently, the Scottish Bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton, now a shop. Just a few miles away is Talkin Tarn Country Park, covering 180 acres - 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Slightly further south is Gelt Woods, an ancient forest along the banks of the River Gelt.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Reviews

Swallow Cottage was perfect for our needs, all ground floor access for my elderly parents and a large enclosed garden for our 2 dogs. It was lovely waking up and opening the bedroom patio doors into the garden! It had everything we needed and is perfectly located to explore the area, Talkin Tarn is within walking distance from the Cottage, Hadrian's Wall, Carlisle, Gretna Green and an hours train journey into Edinburgh. Very friendly and helpful owners.

Swallow Cottage was exactly as described, and exceeded our expectations. It was immaculately clean and very well equipped. Literally everything we needed was provided. The surroundings of the cottage were peaceful and perfect, we found plenty of walks around Milton, directly from the cottage. The lady was very welcoming and was able to provide us with plenty of local information. We spent a wonderful week at Swallow Cottage and would be happy to recommend it to anyone. Thank you!

Lovely quiet location within easy reach of Carlisle, the Lake District and the north-east of England. Really comfortable, well-equipped cottage and good dog-walking nearby.

A perfect holiday Cottage. Clean, comfortable, cosy and quiet. The owner was very welcoming and was on hand if we ever needed. We spent a fair time at the Cottage and it was a home from home.

Had a lovely time here, we used it as a base, but also had a few days pottering around the cottage and the facilities were ideal for both. Would recommend this and would definitely go back.

Wonderful stay at Swallow Cottage over new year 2014/5. The cottage is fully equipped and has been recently renovated to a high standard. There are beautiful views over the Cumbrian countryside. It is near to many local historical sites and a short drive to Hexham, Carlisle and the Scottish Borders. The lovely owner was extremely informative about the local area and helpful on our arrival. We will definitely be booking again.

The owners were friendly and helpful. The wood fire was great, and we could help ourselves to the wood. The cottage was very pretty and decorated to a high standard, and the view from the living area & the main bed across the hills was lovely too. There was lots to do nearby, I would definitely recommend.
