This spacious, semi-detached cottage is attached to the owner's home, on the edge of Denstone near Alton. Built in the mid-19th century as part of the Alton Towers estate, this brick-built farmhouse retains the original beams and character, yet offers extremely light and spacious contemporary open plan living. If you like your peace and tranquillity but don't want to be miles from anywhere, then this is the cottage for you. There's a farm at the top of the track with an organic dairy herd, and it's these ladies who will more than likely be your neighbours during your stay as they graze in the lush green pastures right outside your door. As you enter the cottage there's a warm place for the whole group, including the dogs, to dry off and park your boots. Step through to the sitting room with a wood burner, which is a peaceful place to watch TV, then up a few steps to the open plan kitchen and dining area, and the ground-floor bedroom. The well-equipped kitchen with tiled flooring has a large arched window with beautiful countryside views and the dining table can easily seat everyone in your party. If you just fancy a bit of me time, there's tons of breathing space. This abundance is repeated in the tastefully appointed first floor bedroom with an en-suite shower room, plus there is a second bedroom on the ground floor alongside a family bathroom. With many attractions, eateries and inns close by, there's much to tempt you away, though you may choose to enjoy the fantastic views without leaving this lovely retreat.

The pretty, traditional village of Denstone is set amongst many fantastic attractions, including the thrilling Alton Towers theme park which is just a few minutes’ drive away. The village has an award-winning farm shop and café, a local inn, and an art gallery. Alton is a six minute drive away and offers numerous eateries and pubs and a Post Office. Situated on the Tissington Trail there are excellent walking and cycling routes available.

Reviews

Being the age that we are (my wife and I that is) we have seen a few holiday rentals over the years. Greenacres Barn has catapulted itself into our top 3. Superb accommodation, very well appointed and with every creature comfort you could possibly need. In this day and age Wi-Fi is a must and so often adverts for properties say "Wi-Fi throughout" and what that usually means is if you stand in the corner of a room and hold your laptop above your head you may get a "1 bar" signal. Not here though - there's excellent Wi-Fi coverage throughout. For those of you with pets the design of the place makes life so much more easier. There's a utility room off the main entrance where animals can be dried off and fed etc. The location is excellent with a farm shop, an eclectic village stores and pub nearby. The scenery is stunning with superb walks and views all round. Then there are the owners, providers of many treats that made our holiday very special - the cake was superb! A very friendly couple who have made their behaviour a model for others to follow.

The cottage was very clean and very spacious. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home straight away and throughout our stay. This is an ideal retreat to stay, it is very quiet and would especially be suitable for those visiting the nearby Alton Towers estate. We thoroughly recommended.

Superb cottage in quiet location. David and Tessa are charming and very welcoming hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Their dog Darah is the friendliest dog you could ever wish to meet. The above all added to our enjoyment.
