The ever-popular and attractive market towns of Pickering and Kirkbymoorside are a short drive away, whilst Helmsley with its historic castle ruins overlooking the market square, lies nine miles to the west. Be sure to take a trip to nearby Rievaulx Abbey which can be accessed by car, or a picturesque, easy walk along the valley from Helmsley. The Ryedale Folk Museum is also well worth a visit. Take a trip on the famous North York Moors steam railway from Pickering and, once alighting in Grosmont, explore the engine sheds and pretty station which still retains its original gantry and charm. The popular seaside resorts of Scarborough and Filey, with their impressive, sweeping sands, are also within easy driving distance.
