Reviews

It is lovely, old cottage (with Baptist church behind the wall), with thick stone walls, crackling floors, and a smell of dry wood. The house was clean and cosy. We've found the bed very comfortable. The wi-fi signal was very good around all property. It was great to relax in the hot tub at the evening. The garden is fully enclosed, so our 2 medium/large dogs had plenty of space to play, and we felt safe that they wouldn't run away. Local people were very friendly. There are nice places for shorter walks along Llaethdy Brook and on steep, opposite slope of the valley, with stunning views from the top. The nearest shop and petrol station (the only one in the neighbourhood) is about 10 minutes away by car. We fully recommend this house for people, who like quiet, countryside holidays

This is our second visit to the cottage this year, first trip in June for a quiet weekend to celebrate a birthday and this time for a full week to enjoy a festive family retreat tucked away in the Valleys! On arrival the cottage was spotless, lovely and warm & the fire had been lit with plenty of additional fire wood and everything you would need to attend to the fire - extra wood also available in the shed if needed. Lovely walks on the doorstep with the dog and perfect for tiring out our busy 3 year old with scenic river walks and farm animals to spot along the way. Despite the -2 weather the cottage was toasty our entire stay and views were utterly picturesque coated in a layer of frost early mornings. We made some really special Christmas memories this week, with a scenic drive out to Aberystwyth for a frosty walk on the beach and a festive visit to Powis Castle to enjoy the magic under the twinkle of the lights, roaming reindeer and mulled wine in the courtyard - both places were really easy to get to from the cottage but what a treat it was to return to the log fire, put a film on and enjoy giant hot chocolates tucked away from the world! As far as the facilities go there was nothing we were short of, a really comfortable stay if you embrace the cottage and all it has to give. The owners, like our last visit were really helpful and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and feel really approachable if you do need anything at all. There's no doubt about it this lovely little cottage has stolen a place in our hearts and is our perfect retreat away from the busy way of life we are used to in the Midlands.

A last minute google bought us to Preachers Cottage, desperately needing a weekend away from the stresses of life and somewhere to celebrate a birthday together - we couldn't have found anything more perfect. It had EVERYTHING we needed and more, a little slice of heaven tucked away from the world. We explored the local walks with our dog, enjoyed fresh eggs from the (lovely) neighbour across the road and completely switched off to recharge for a few days with the added bonus of the hot tub. A welcome platter greeted us - lovely touch and so appreciated. Directions were clear and the cottage was spotless. Can't wait to return for another weekend in the future! 100% recommend!

Just had a 4 day break at the cottage very remote setting with not a lot around but ideal for our needs .Very quirky place and was spotlessly clean on our arrival .Kitchen has everything you need including dishwasher and washing machine ,lounge was comfortable and had sky tv and free wifi which was good as no phone signal.Power shower over the bath and main bedroom had a king size bed which was very comfortable and the window overlooked the farm next door lovely sight in the morning looking at the chickens and sheep wandering around yet very quiet .Outside the highlight is the hot tub which is under a roof cover so no matter the weather you can use it which we did everyday all in all nice little cottage to use as a base to discover the area but make sure you bring plenty of food and drink supplies as nearest shop is a 15 minute drive away .

Unfortunately the attention to detail was not good the bathroom was mouldy and the shower screen hadn't been cleaned. When we first walked into the kitchen we were greeted by 2 fly papers hanging up which had looked very old and needed refreshing. The beds were so hard you could feel every spring we had to buy a air bed as we had such a terrible few days sleep which ruined 2 days of our holiday. The house could do with secondary glazing as the windows were wet every morning and you can hear next doors dog. Living in an old property myself understand how much this helps. The hot tub was good hence why I didn't give this a 1 rating. We were too upset by the last day to contact the owner.

We arrived at the cottage early evening and as described enclosed garden with steps leading to cottage. On entering the cottage it was very clean and had everything you needed. As we settled in for the evening we noticed a huge amount of house flies in the cottage, we went too bed and on getting up the next morning there were at least 30 flies especially around the fireplace in the kitchen. As the weather had been damp we thought this would be why. We went and got some fly spray and fly strips, it continued all week. We have spoken to James the owner who could not understand but said he would resolve this. Cottage does require a little tlc but overall is nice but we spent most of our holiday outside due to about 30-50 flies daily such a shame.

Loved the place because it was so well appointed and quiet. Nice to just relax. Ideal for a couple with children perhaps. Space for 4 people. Front and rear doors, nice kitchen/diner. CH & HW: simple to use wood burning stove if you would like. The place was nice and clean and welcoming. The neighbours were nice. Chickens and ducks wandering around. Friendly neighbourhood cat who took a shine. Local shop (main road, turn right) is excellent - even has a post office 1 day/week. Garage next door (cheaper than the supermarket) to shop. There are pubs and restaurants round about. Good for walking. Short drive to some stunning scenery Elan Valley. Would I book again - yes, no hesitation. All in all a well looked after cottage.

We have just returned from a fantastic stay at Preachers cottage! The winter months really are a beautiful time to visit this hidden gem for complete relaxation. The owner greeted us on arrival, had the hot tub up and running and the log burner lit ready for us! The cottage is in an idylic area surrounded by nearby walks which we went on daily. For short drives around varying between 4 minutes and 20 minutes or further if you wish.. there are some beautiful places to walk. All information is well stocked at the cottage. Upon return, we continued the relaxation in the dream hot tub which is extremely high quality with a back, leg and feet aqua massager... perfect for after those long walks. All towels were provided and plenty of them. The cottage is situated in the countryside, the journey to it is breathtaking and the neighbours are equally adorable with chickens and ducks roaming. Their owl can be heard from the cottage and adds to the tranquility. The neighbour even gave us freshly laid eggs for our bacon sarnies, they were amazing too! We are frequent travellers and prepared for this self catering stay well. The cottage is equipped for your cooking needs and really is home from home. Take plenty of food, drink and be prepared with walking boots and warm clothing. We don't normally return to places we have already been to but this one is an exception and we will be returning. You wont be dissapointed! Ps our 2 little dogs loved it and didn't want to leave!

We had a lovely weeks holiday, very welcoming when we arrived. Brilliant to either stay put and enjoy the hills around for walking or for venturing out to explore all that Wales has to offer. Stately homes, waterfall and old steam trains. Reservoirs and old castles. loads to see and then back to the comfy cottage for a dip in the hot tub. well worth a visit.

We are a family of 4 + 1 dog and have had a fab week. The cottage & surrounding area was lovely & the hot tub is an added bonus after the afternoon/evening strolls. We visited Elan Valley, Devil's Bridge, caught the steam train to Aberystwyth and went paddling in the stream & rock pools at Hafren Forest. There is plenty to see & do & we cannot wait to come back, in fact we all didn't want to leave. Thank you James & Rachel for sharing your lovely cottage.

We have had a fantastic three night stay at this beautiful cottage. We were a party of two young couples and we couldn’t of asked for anything better! The cottage was adorable! It’s was extremely clean and the owners had paid great attention to detail by even providing fresh flowers in each room. The outside area with the hot tub was an amazing bonus and the picnic table area and bbq was spent with plenty of card games in the sunshine. I was really pleased to find out I could cope a whole weekend without phone signal but you didn’t have to walk far if you wanted it. The log burner on an evening was fabulous and easy to use if you know how to light a fire. The owner of the cottage was really helpful, gave us all advice on where we could get phone signal if we needed it and how to light the fire etc. The only possible downsides and that’s if your really nitpicking is that the second bedroom was two adult bunks rather than a double but didn’t bother us at all. Overall an absolutely amazing and brilliant cottage hidden away in the countryside, I would definitely recommend this peaceful and wonderful cottage to anyone!

Myself and husband visited Preachers cottage along with our two dogs last weekend. What can I say it was a perfect break away to relax and enjoy some quality family time. It is situated in a small hamlet which has some great walks on the doorstep. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you would need. The log burning fire was a bonus coming back from our snowy walks and the hot tub in the evening was a huge bonus. Highly recommended and hope to be visiting again soon :)
