Reviews

I don’t often do reviews, but I couldn’t not review Five Wells Barn. The cottage itself is lovely, well fitted and comfortable, brilliantly placed in the Peak District. But it’s the kindness and generosity of Mark and Caroline that’s the most outstanding, including driving me back from A&E in the small hours of the morning, loaning me some crutches so I could sort of get around and phoning me after I’d left to arrange to send something on to me, and not even taking anything for postage. I visit the Peak District often and would love to stay here again, and hopefully cause less trouble than the first time!

Thank you for our stay, we had a lovely few days away, the barn is beautifully presented and complimentary touches made our stay even more comfortable. We loved being in the countryside and enjoyed waking up to the animals. Would highly recommend the barn and we will hopefully be back in the future!

This beautiful barn was exactly what we wanted- a cosy getaway which felt like the middle of nowhere. When we arrived we were greeted so warmly by Mark and shown around - lovely personal touches of cheese, milk, bread, tomatoes and coffee were left for us and we knew they were on hand if we needed anything. The barn itself is gorgeous- really well decorated and so comfortable. The underfloor heating made the stone flag floor very comfortable to walk on and the log burner was easy to use. There is a full length windownlooking out on the farmers field where we could have spent hours watching the sheep graze and seeing the changing skies over the fields. There was a folder full of printed out walks and suggestions of activities and we made use of the sheet for a 6 mile walk - a wonderful day was spent exploring the gorgeous countryside and it ended in the local pub at Chelmorton which was outstanding. The pub was only a 10 min walk away from the barn - over a field. We will definitely be going back again - we wanted a romantic getaway where we could go for long walks and spend quality time away from the world- we got exactly that.

From start to finish we loved our time at Five Wells. Mark and Caroline were so welcoming and friendly. The cottage is really well equipped and serves as an ideal bolt hole after a long day of walking - the log burner is a particular treat. We loved waking up each morning and enjoying breakfast with such a glorious view, not to mention the added bonus of watching the sheep out in the fields. We had a lovely stay and can’t wait to book again.

Five Wells barn ticked every box for our search for the perfect getaway. We have stayed in a few places over the years in the Peak district and they have all been very nice. However Five Wells barn was just something else and we really didn't want to leave! From the decor (which is everything I would have chosen for myself) to opening the blinds in the morning to the most incredible view over Derbyshire with sheep, horses, donkeys, goats and chickens all greeting you in the field outside. We didn't even put the TV on sometimes and just sat watching the animals; the two kittens in the field were highly entertaining as were the donkeys! A very warm welcome will be waiting for you from the owners, Mark and Caroline. We will definately be back next year.

We arrived at 5 Wells farm after a long drive up from Essex to be greeted with the most glorious scenes of rolling countryside in the Peak District, our stay in Mark and Carolines converted barn with stunning views on their working farm was a fabulously relaxing break, the decor and comfort was superb with some much appreciated milk and essentials provided. With many walks, bike hire, a visit to Chatsworth and some lovely local pubs our mini break was complete!...oh and we were lucky enough to have some lambs born whilst there. Highly recommend.

We were looking for a peaceful countryside cottage and Five Wells Barn was the perfect choice. The accommodation is very cosy and, despite being slightly off-the-beaten track, the TV, Wi-Fi and heating all worked marvellously, which isn't always the case in holiday cottages! A friendly horse, donkeys, chickens, sheep and (if you time it right) lambs are just seconds away from the front door. A great base to explore nearby Bakewell, Buxton, Chatsworth, Eyams and the amazing Monsal Trail. Highly recommended!

Anyone knows how they feel after a flight from New Zealand...24hrs flying plus transit time. I chose this cottage as it wasn't too far from Manchester airport, but far enough to escape the hustle and bustle. So much better to fly into than Heathrow. Used GPS which was accurate. Don't drive into five well farms carry on following driveway around and between house on left and barn on right. You cannot see the cottage until you follow this route. Was met by Caroline who showed me around the cottage. An absolutely beautiful cottage which suited my needs. I spent hours staring out of the big window with expansive views. Yes the sheep do come right up to the window. So many holiday cottages I have rented have terrible beds but this one was fabulous. I loved the decor. A welcome pack was left which even though I didn't use was much appreciated ( I'd already shopped at Waitrose in Buxton) I stayed 5 days and only ventured out on last day. If like me you hate the cold this cottage is warm. I love my own company and solitude, no noise, no lights. This place really recharged my batteries. Caroline and Mark were very helpful and friendly and are there should you have any questions. A perfect place for a solo woman. Very reasonably priced one of the cheapest, but nicest cottages I've stayed in. I always write reviews and encourage you to do the same as it's always helpful for others.

Situated on a working Farm in Flagg just a short walk (or even shorter drive) to the little village of Chelmorton this cottage is just perfect for a romantic break. Although part of the farm you are not overlooked in any way and the views out across the fields are unspoiled and amazing. The only onlookers you might get are the sheep and chickens that pass by the full length window and occasionally look in! Inside the cottage is well laid out and the owners have spared no expense in decorating it and furnishing it to a very high standard. They have thought of lots of little touches to make it as romantic as possible. WiFi is also available so you can still keep in touch with the outside world......if you want to? The bed is really comfortable and the kitchen equipped with pretty much everything you would need and the underfloor heating ensures a lovely temperature. If the weather permits there is a secluded patio area outside with chairs to sit and enjoy the sunsets however if the great British weather is against you, you can just stay inside, snuggle down and light the wood burner. The cottage is also ideally suited with some walks right on your doorstep and many others only a short drive away. The owners Mike and Caroline are extremely friendly and welcoming and on hand for any help and advice and they have thoughtfully written out some suggestions for local walks with guides and maps. A welcome pack was also very welcomed and eggs straight from the barn next door were about as fresh as you can get. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already looking to see when we can return...for longer this time! So do we recommend this amazing place.......we certainly do, without any hesitation!!
