Location Details

The hamlet of Phocle Green lies between Ross-on-Wye and Upton Bishop and is less than 3 miles from Ross-on-Wye. Ross-on-Wye is a historic market town overlooking a large loop in the beautiful River Wye, situated in the heart of rural Herefordshire and in the picturesque Wye Valley. This attractive town has timbered Tudor houses clustered around the striking 17th century Market Hall, and there are excellent shops, pubs and restaurants to suit every taste. Stroll along the lovely river bank, take a river cruise or view the surrounding countryside from a hot-air balloon. Upton Bishop offers many lovely walks and cycle routes with the Herefordshire Trail and Wye Valley Walk both close by. Phocle Green is an ideal base for exploring all that this region has to offer.

Herefordshire offers visitors the chance to journey through lush green countryside, enjoying splendid black-and-white timbered villages, a magnificent cathedral city, a fairytale Georgian castle at Eastnor or books galore in famous Hay-on-Wye.

Reviews

Due to the cost cutting by the host there was no continuous hot water, Only available in the mornings. Bit of a cheek considering we paid for it! Also, the cleaner needs to actually clean as there were cobwebs everywhere, dead insects on the stairs and in bowls in the kitchen. The kitchen cupboards had an unsavory smell and in need of a deep clean, There was a stain on the bed sheet and the bath was dirty (not that I could have had a bath because there was no hot water). Host rather unfriendly. Parking on the host's drive was a little tricky as not a lot of room to maneuver. Take your own hair dryer as hosts don't provide one. One tiny TV in the lounge area. Rather steep steps up to the kitchen/lounge if you have mobility problems. Good points: WiFi and secure garden for dog.

An attractive bothy conversion on the edge of Ross on Wye. One bedroom with a very comfortable king sized bed, en suite bathroom in an upside down style. The open plan kitchen/living space on the first floor has all the amenities any one would need for a break. It has a small patio area to the rear of the property. It is also dog friendly, but only for one dog. The owners live in an adjacent property and are very welcoming and friendly. It is only a 10 minute drive to Ross, and 40 to the forest of Dean.
