Embracing an elevated position above Bentham, with a blend of original period features, this retreat creates a heart-warming place for families or friends to come together and relax. Alternatively, set up the table in the dining area with seating for six, where you can create more of an occasion. The lounge will become your night-time escape, enhanced by a wood-burner and exposed beams to set the scene for some well-earned downtime, whether that is watching TV or simply relaxing on the extra-large and comfortable sofa, love seat or armchair with plenty of room for six people. To the first floor lies two pretty bedrooms, each with a king-size bed and pleasant views over the surrounding countryside. These bedrooms share access to a brand new shower room with WC and a sink, newly put in during 2018 with a large modern shower. From the inner hallway, a staircase to the mid-level floor reveals a further very large bedroom a super king-size bed that can be split into two large single beds, and with an additional day bed for relaxing. There is ample storage space, wonderful views of the Yorkshire Three Peaks from your bed, further Velux windows and a feature of a door to an external stone staircase. There is a downstairs bathroom with large bath, a shower over bath, WC and sink that is easily accessed from this master bedroom. Externally, there is a private garden, with a grassed area to the front and back of the property, with views of the Yorkshire Three Peaks from the front of the property, and wonderful views from the rear garden out onto Burns Moor, the start of the Forest of Bowland, an AONB. There is also a gated cobbled courtyard and an open stone garage, and a store room/drying room, great for walking boots and wellies and containing a washing machine, tumble dryer and clothes dryer. When you are not admiring the heart-warming landscape or resting by the tranquil stream, the High Bentham area is threaded with public footpaths and rights of way that are well documented in a local walking guide covering locations such as the River Wenning and the Great Stone of Fourstones, and there are walks from the doorstep including Bentham Heritage Trail. The wonderful Yorkshire Three Peaks are all easily accessible within a 20-minute drive and the town of Hawes is just 40 minutes away via a scenic drive into the dales proper. From there it is a short distance to sites like Bolton Abbey, Bainbridge and Askrigg, home of the tales of Yorkshire vet James Herriot in the TV series "All creatures great and small" and many more. The delights of the Lake District National Park and the coastal scenery of Morecambe Bay are only 40 minutes away by car and there is a local train service, along with local shops and pubs. Not forgetting the 18-hole golf course, appreciated for its views and friendly atmosphere. A getaway for all the family to enjoy.

Reviews

Mill Dam Cottage is nestled away from even the nearest road, halfway up a hillside, on the boarder of the Forest of Bowland. With nature on the doorstep and so much to explore close by, it is a great place to stay. The cottage is spacious, for the most and comfortable you’ll only need to bring yourself and then relax. Our three dogs stayed with us, an added bonus allowing three dogs as standard. The enclosed back garden had a babbling brook for that authentic relaxing backdrop. We enjoyed the stay and felt that the owners Karen and Ryan would do anything, if possible, to make our stay as pleasurable as possible. Our thanks go to them and for the welcome pack, more than just a pint of promised milk, thank you.
