Location Details

Hinderwell is a small, lively village close to the fishing villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay. Hinderwell was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Hildrewell, a derivation of Hilda's Well, named for the Abbess of Whitby who was travelling through the parish in a drought and was asked to intercede. Her prayers were answered when a spring appeared near the sight of the present Parish Church, and this spring has continued to flow from the hillside to this day. The village is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful countryside, and walks, cycle ways, gliding, horse riding and fishing are all well catered for in the area. Whitby is seven miles away and the town has a rich and varied heritage waiting to be discovered. This is a fabulous holiday base.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

This is the perfect place to rest, recharge and get some fresh air. The cottage is spotlessly clean, warm and relaxed, the perfect place to snuggle in front of an open fire with a book and hot drink on a dark winters evening. We visited Staithes, Whitby and Brunswick Bay over the course of the weekend and they were all simply lovely places to be. With very easy access to a fantastic restaurant, fish and chip shop and two pubs, this really is a perfect spot. We will be back in the summer for sure

Ideal location for visiting both the coast and nearby Yorkshire moors. Only 30 mins walk from the cottage to beach at Runswick Bay. Coastal path close by for walking to Staithes. Hinderwell is only a small village but does have two pubs, serving food, a quality butchers where you can purchase bread and other provisions. The cottage itself is set back off the main road and as a small fully enclosed garden, perfect for our dog. Small but perfect for our 7 night holiday. Very cosy, with full gas central heating and log burner, with good supply of logs. Well equipped with plenty of crockery, cooking utensils, tea towels etc. In fact, probably best we have stayed in, like home from home. The bed was very comfortable with good quality bedding and towels. Christine, the owner was very welcoming and we were very impressed with the welcome pack. The three fruit marmalade was delicious . Thank you for a wonderful holiday. Would highly recommend.

Cosy 2 bedroomed cottage which allows 1 pet. Very clean and well appointed. Beautiful walled garden which we all enjoyed. Fish and chip shop is very good and close. We had brilliant weather and it was a joy to sit out in the evening watching the roosting birds.
