As 2022 was our 50th wedding anniversary we decided to rent a cottage, as we usually did each year, so we looked on SYKES COTTAGES site. We selected THE PHEASANT IN BOWES, as it looked really nice in the brochure. As our anniversary is on 21st of January, we are used to the cold weather, so we always take appropriate outdoor clothing. What we did not plan on was the owner had set the electric heaters to his advantage not ours, with the result it was not always very warm inside. As we didn't plan to out all the time, we had to keep asking the owner to reset the timers, as they were sealed so we could not alter them. His excuse was that most people go out during the day. The temperature inside was our .main complaint. However, the brochure stated that there was a pub and a shop in the village. The shop did not exist and the pub was closed until March. Overall, our BIG DAY WAS SPOILED. Also the constant noise from the traffic on the very near main road, both day and night, didn't help. TO SUM UP, IF YOU ARE OLD, DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE ESPECIALLY IN THE WINTER.
