Reviews

I have never written a review halfway through a holiday but this cottage is outstanding. I can't believe it was available at short notice. If you are looking for a cottage that is immaculate, comfortable and in the perfect location Acorn Cottage is the one!! Acorn Cottage is ideally located for the North Yorkshire Moors, York, Beverley, Driffield, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Thornton le Dale ( For Mathewsons / Bangers and Cash fans), Pickering, Goathland (for Heartbeat fans), Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington and Flamborough plus the little known top tip place from the owner Danes Dyke - an absolutely stunning area of natural beauty, marine conservation at it's best. Back to the cottage, the owners are next door - not that you would know, communication before and during our stay has been brilliant, very helpful and welcoming and our privacy maintained. The cottage is a tardis, all the rooms are large and spacious, two very big comfy sofas in the lounge. The kitchen is light and airy, great for cooks, pans and kitchen equipment are all high spec and I must add, easy to use! The dining area is large enough for a family or six people (cottage sleeps 4 so plenty of room). The area opens out on to a little patio area, keeping the area sociable inside and out. Lovely sun trap and so is the seating on the lawn. The tranquility of the cottage is lovely. Yes there is a country lane outside but there is hardly any traffic at all, the birds make more noise than any cars. The large hallway is great for coats, shoes, brollies and wellies - you never know with the good old Great British Weather! There is a log burner for cooler nights and a huge basket of logs should you need them. The TV has Netflix and the cottage has superfast WIFI. Central heating and plenty of consistent hot water are at your fingertips. Upstairs, I must mention the steep/deep stairs, on the plus side I have had a good workout, on the downside, they aren't suitable for people with mobility issues or small children climbing unaided. The bedrooms are large and airy. The windows are great on hot days and the heating is welcome on the cooler evenings. There is a jack and jill bathroom that is high spec and spacious. Both bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe space, side cupboards/drawers, a hairdryer, fan for those particularly hot days and extra bedding for the cooler nights. Luxury bedding and towels are provided. The beds are extremely comfy, you get a really good nights sleep. The area is so quiet day and night, lovely for star gazing too. Field views to the front and overlooking the garden. The garden is lawned with patio seating areas and full of busy birds, all happy to say hello to you!! Facilities include; washing machine, dishwasher, iron and ironing board, child friendly equipment such as stairgates on request, the cottage caters for a family stay. With regards to parking, plenty of room for cars on the lane, park on the grass opposite, as do the locals. The lawns are all maintained beautifully. The cottage is on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Kilham, set in stunning countryside, it has a great pub and country shop, beautiful looking church and has everything you would expect from village life - a community with heart. We were expecting to be joined by our two teenage girls but they sadly couldn't make it, so..... We've already decided, we'll just have to come back again!! PS Took loads of photos of the cottage, I will upload when I can!!
