Location Details

The idyllic village of Goathland is set on the north eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park. It is surrounded by the rugged open moorlands which provide excellent walking country and on which sheep graze freely. The village has been popularised by the television programme Heartbeat. At the bottom of the village lies the station for the famous North York Moors Steam Railway. Here you can catch a train to Whitby or Pickering and relax as the train winds its way through the moors. Goathland is within easy reach of the East Coast towns of Whitby, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough, making it a great holiday base.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Reviews

The house exceeded expectations and the rooms were spacious and comfortable, the kitchen a joy to use and the games room was very popular with all ages from 7 to 80. We had a wonderful week and the children enjoyed running about garden when it was dry. Great base for exploring North Yorks Steam Railway and Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay , Pickering and surrounding area. Would recommend for a family holiday.

Our family of 12 had just returned home from a week here in Goathland. We have all fallen deeply in love with the house and village . The house is jaw dropping . We arrived and 1st impressions was this is going to be an amazing week. 6 bedrooms 1st floor was a twin room with en suite , and 2 double rooms also en-suite further up the stairs 3 more doubles and a family bathroom . I cannot get over the size of the rooms we also had a cot which fitted perfectly in our room , the kids were thoroughly entertained with the pool/table tennis and air hockey table . Plenty of rooms to chill out in and 3 TVs - the highchair we did struggle with as my 10 month old kept sliding about in it . The village is beautiful plenty of places to go off for a walk trails all labelled and I didn’t realise this is where most of heartbeat was filmed just to the top of the road and there sits the aidensfield arms and the garage . There is also a little station just a bit further down the road where Harry Potter was filmed - it’s Hogsmead station a steam train goes from there and is a beauty to see - we stood on the bridge and got some lovely photos of the train arriving and leaving - the village has a few gift shops and small newsagents and 2 tea rooms -we ate next door at A hotel inn on the moor which was a beautiful meal - there are no takeaways nearby but 2 occasions we phoned a Chinese takeaway in Pickering which was only 20 min drive or you could venture into Whiby which was 10 minutes away - the best thing I loved about this village is the sheep walking freely around . I hope one day we can return back to this wonderful home - the owners Lynn and Barry should be very proud of their little gem

Had a fabulous week! We usually stay in Whitby but ventured here to Goathland this year and enjoyed staying in this beautiful village much more. All seven of us loved the house, thought it very spacious, ideally located and our best choice ever. It's a very large accommodation and sleeps 12 people (14 if sofa bed downstairs used) hence the expensive nightly/weekly cost but well worth it! Amply equipped and the enormous kitchen was something else. The only one slight criticism is that for a house with such extensive gardens there is no BBQ available which we thought strange. We made the short 10 min drive into Whitby a couple times in the week, an obvious "must" for all when in this area and enjoyed the more adventurous trip  to see the spectacular local Mallyan Spout waterfall. The steam railway from Goathland is also something worth experiencing. Goathland village is a dream whether you are a Heartbeat fan or not, with sheep wandering the village, a few lovely local shops and of course the pub, aka The Aidensfield Arms. We will definitely return!
