Without any doubt, The Shooting Folly is as unique holiday home that we have ever come across. Standing all on its own, surrounded by glorious Shropshire farmland and with long views over fields and woods, it is an unbelievably romantic bolt hole in some of the most attractive countryside in England. It’s history dates back to the 19th Century, once believed to be an old shooting lodge, the building is wonderfully quirky with a crenelated mock church tower at one end, a stepped gable at the other and in between a simple, timber thatched cottage! In recent years the folly has been transformed (from a ruin) by its current owners back to its former glory using high quality materials, to create a very homely and unique ‘hideaway’ filled with period features and all mod cons you’d expect from a high quality home, including a super Cedar Hot Tub. In our opinion, the Folly is just as perfect for honeymooners as it is for walkers, in fact anyone seeking peace and tranquillity in a remote rural environment. There is little not to love in this gem, not least that there are two pubs within a few miles too! The gorgeous village of Cheswardine is relatively untouched and is a typical Shropshire village. There are two pubs in the village, The Fox & Hounds and The Wharf Tavern which sits right on the canal. For walkers (and the non-walkers too!) there is a network of public footpaths all round from your front door. The Shooting Folly is a brilliant getaway for couples that are looking for a honeymoon destination, or just a space to get away from everyday life.

The Shooting Folly is on the edge of a small village, but a few miles from the totally gorgeous village of Cheswardine, which is relatively untouched and a typical Shropshire village. There are two pubs nearby, both recommended by the owners – The Fox & Hounds is two miles away and The Wharf Tavern sits right on the canal.

Reviews

This was our 4th or 5th stay, and it is still the most perfect place in the world. What could beat waking up to the sound of nothing but the occasional bleat or birdsong, opening the kitchen door to have a cow peering in at you as you eat porridge made from the most delicious fresh milk? How about spending a cosy evening in a genuine snug, with a wood burner if it's cold and a tv if you must? Or sleeping in a comfortable bed in a delightful room with lovely views to greet you when you draw the curtains? If a hot tub is your thing, the Shooting Folly even has one of those in the delightful garden, along with tables and chairs and even a bbq. An absolute dream with everything you need or want. The owners are so nice, friendly and helpful and the little touches they add just make this perfect. Thank you.
