The walk from parking to the cottage will involve a short steep hill.

The Wirksworth Festival, held each September, sees the town turned into an open gallery with access to artists houses and a programme of live music and entertainment. With an art deco independent cinema, Heritage Centre, a range of places to eat and some lively real ale pubs, there is plenty to entertain. The Ecclesbourne Valley heritage railway has a station in Wirksworth and the weekly market and monthly farmers' market provide local produce and crafts. Leaving the cottage from the kitchen door takes you into one of the narrow paths of the Puzzle Gardens and gives access to the small garden through a shared gate.
