The property originally formed the defensive entrance to the village rectory and a courtyard of medieval buildings, the rectory and outbuildings were rebuilt in 1698 and then demolished in the 19th century, but the gatehouse escaped intact. In the village there is a pub and Post Office.

Parking for 2 cars. Shop 2 miles and pub within walking distance Please note the pub is not currently open. Buses to York run four times daily. Regret no children, babes in arms welcome. Please note steps to the decking are steep and stairs are fairly steep internally.

Nearby Tadcaster has extensive local facilities and the historic city of York is just eight miles away and offers many art galleries and museums to explore, along with racing at York Racecourse.
