Set amongst the grounds of an attractive farm, about 15 minutes drive from the popular market town of Hexham and only 25 minutes' drive from the vibrant city of Newcastle, this well equipped cottage, on the outskirts of Riding Mill village, is a great base for exploring Northumberland countryside and coastline and the north east of England in general. Located near a number of Dark Sky Discovery sites, so bring warm clothing and binoculars for star gazing one night. Just a short drive away, you ll find historic Corbridge, once known as Corstopitum, a Roman garrison town by Hadrian s Wall with a crossing over the River Tyne. These days, it s home to beautiful independent shops, and the annual Corbridge Festival, celebrating music and street theatre. Head to Hexham to experience the area s Viking history, with its ancient abbey and atmospheric gaol the earliest British prison. Alternatively, your cottage is the perfect place to plan a hike from, with the nearby village of Riding Mill a couple of miles from your doorstep.
