Alongside original Edwardian features, such as servants’ bells and period fittings, a programme of sympathetic modernisation in 2020 has transformed Lagafater Lodge into a warm and comfortable holiday home. In the best tradition of Scottish sporting lodges, the accommodation is impeccably considered. Although capable of sleeping a party of sixteen comfortably, this unpretentious lodge neither feels too large nor too small, whilst both the dining and living room retain both the capacity and grandeur for special occasions. Lagafater (Gaelic for ’long hollow’) lies in the very heart of the Glen App and Galloway Moors SPA, noted for its wealth of birds and other wildlife, the seven thousand acre Lagafater Estate offers the perfect opportunity for guests to escape, relax and explore. In fine weather hiking/walking boots are a very good idea as there is plenty of walking to be had. Swimming costumes, including outdoor towels, might be useful as there are beautiful natural pools on the Estate and sandy beaches not too far away. Lagafater Estate has its own on-site chef, why not treat yourself to a sumptuous meal and dine like a lord or lady in your very own Scottish Lodge (by arrangement, at cost).
