The village of Forth lies at 1000 feet above sea level and is near the bustling market town of Lanark in South Lanarkshire. The name is believed to come from the phrase ‘the open air’. Beginning life as a town of handloom weavers, Forth soon developed as ironstone, limestone and mining trades took over and it became known predominantly as a mining village. The traditional crowning of the Queen of the Heather still takes place at the annual gala day.
